AOC Says Defunding Police And Giving Funds To Social Programs Will Prevent Crime

Everyone’s favorite Democratic Socialist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has come out in favor of defunding police departments and rerouting the money toward social programs, which she says will prevent crime from happening in the first place. This statement, aside from being completely nutty, is a response designed to combat the criticism that cutting funding to police will lead to an increase in crime due to the fact less officers will be available to patrol communities.

Folks, this is just one more reason to add to an already lengthy list, of why AOC needs to be voted out of office come election time. She’s proven time and time again to be incompetent in her position — remember the Amazon deal? — and shouldn’t be given an opportunity to mess things up for district more than she already has.

Here’s more on this statement from the Washington Examiner:

“The problem is not a lack of resources here,” Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday on Good Morning America. “In fact, many folks here in our community say that the problem is the opposite, is that not enough resources are being put into the very kinds of social programming and investments that prevent crime and social discord in the first place.”

Ocasio-Cortez said the phrase “defund the police” had less to do with funding for law enforcement than it does with how governments spend taxpayer dollars.

“And so what a lot of folks are talking about, when it comes into this movement, is that they’re asking for the same budget priorities that many affluent suburbs already have,” she said. “And it may sound strange, but many affluent suburbs have essentially already begun pursuing a defunding of the police in that they fund schools, they fund housing, and they fund healthcare more as their No. 1 priorities.”

President Trump has not at all been a fan of the idea of taking money away from police departments and applying it to social programs, noting that he would keep federal funding for law enforcement exactly where it is right now.

Surprisingly, presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has also come out against the idea of stripping police departments of their funding. However, he went on to say that there should be more investment being done in African-American communities.

Here’s the thing. No one is against the idea of investing money, time, and effort into improving black communities and neighborhoods. That should absolutely be done. The problem is the government is the one that wants to give them money, which means there’s a high probability that real change won’t be made because they, the government, will not spend the money in a way that will actually improve anything.

More than likely, it will find its way into a politician’s pocket. We need to help these communities thrive and more government intervention, which has been the source of the problem, hardly seems like the right path forward.
