Attention-Mongering AOC Takes Aim at Tucker Carlson

Precocious progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has proven, time and again, that her entire political strategy hinges on just how much attention she can keep for herself in the political-entertainment sphere. She is, after all, one of the most popular lawmakers on social media, often using a variety of platforms to harvest the limelight, and purposefully provoking folks far outside of her political weight-class in order to remain salacious.

This week was no exception, as the NY Democrat decided to latch onto Tucker Carlson’s coattails.

The two first clashed over AOC’s ethnic background.

Carlson: He said it was “absurd” AOC is considered a person of color. “She’s a rich, entitled white lady,” he said, per Newsweek. “She’s the pampered obnoxious ski bunny in the matching snowsuit who tells you to pull up your mask while you’re standing in the lift line at Jackson Hole. They’re all the same, it doesn’t matter what shade they are.”
AOC: “This is the type of stuff you say when your name starts with a P and ends with dejo,” she tweeted, a reference to the Spanish-language insult pendejo. AOC’s mother was born in Puerto Rico, and her Bronx father has Puerto Rican roots.

And then…

Carlson: The host referenced a new book about AOC by New York editors in which she describes herself as “alone” one particular day. Says Carlson: “Is it just us, or does that sound like an invitation to a booty call? Maybe one step from ‘what are you wearing?’ Either way, it’s a little strange, it’s definitely oversharing.” (In a separate essay at Fox News, Carlson calls Take Up Space: The Unprecedented AOC a “book-length suck-up” to her.)
AOC: “You’re a creep bro,” she tweeted. “If you’re this easy w/ sexual harassment on air, how are you treating your staff?” She added: “Any man that talks like this will treat any woman like this. Doesn’t matter if you’re Republican, Democrat, or neither, this is clearly not a safe person to leave alone w/ women. Once again, the existence of a wife or daughters doesn’t make a man good. And this one is basura.”

While AOC’s adoring fanbase will likely gobble up all of these “sick burns”, those who’ve watched the Washington machine flounder in the past will recognize these cringeworthy distractions for what they are: A progressive PR campaign meant to keep us talking about Ocasio-Cortez.

There are plenty of ways in which American politicians can react to a tragedy, with a great many of those options being a bit shortsighted.

This is especially true of Democrats, it seems, as their innate progressivism makes them uniquely obsessed with change for the sake of change – even when those changes may be constitutionally questionable.

The latest example of this comes to us from New York, where a racist massacre at a grocery store has the state government looking to spy on citizens’ social media accounts.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Wednesday announced plans to create a police unit designed to, in part, combat “hate speech” in the wake of the tragic shooting in Buffalo, promising to “confront this epidemic head-on.”

“We’re proposing a comprehensive plan to combat domestic terrorism, strengthen state gun laws, & investigate social media platforms promoting violent extremism,” Hochul announced Wednesday.

“In wake of the racist act of terror in Buffalo, New York will lead the charge to confront this epidemic head-on”.

The devil was in the (lack of) details:

One of the governor’s executive orders instructs the State Police to establish a “dedicated unit within the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC) to track domestic extremism and increase social media monitoring at the Intelligence Center.”

“The unit will be responsible for developing investigative leads based on social media analyses focused on radical extremist activities motivated threats by identifying online locations and activities that facilitate radicalization and promote violent extremism,” it reads in part.

Without any clear or concise guard rails, those employed within the unit would be left to examine any number of questionable pieces of alleged “evidence”, tagging and cataloging completely harmless users in the sort of overreach that would have George Orwell not only rolling over in his grave, but kicking at the lid of his coffin as well.
