There is a very real chance that we’ll never truly know what happened on the set of the movie “Rust” that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but the family of the deceased Hollywood artist are going to do their damndest to get at least some answers.

From the start, the investigation into her death has been perplexing.  Actor and producer Alec Baldwin shot Hutchins while rehearsing a maneuver with a firearm on set that was somehow loaded with a live round.  Further complicating the situation is Baldwin’s hard-to-believe assertion that he never actually pulled the trigger, and the delay that the A-lister had in handing over his telephone to authorities after a search warrant was issued.

Now a wrongful death lawsuit is being filed, and Alec Baldwin has been named in the motion.

The lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of Halyna’s husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, in New Mexico, names Alec Baldwin and others who “are responsible for the safety on the set” and “reckless behavior and cost-cutting” that led to the death of Hutchins, according to Hutchins’ lawyer.

Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, assistant director David Halls, production companies and producers were also named in the lawsuit.

Representatives for Baldwin, Gutierrez Reed and Halls did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

One shocking allegation that was leveled at the crew concerned live-ammo target practice that would occur during the production’s downtime, and which saw the film’s on-set firearms being used.

Local authorities say that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
