Biden Again Threatens China, Prompting More WWIII Fears
At this point, with the global community being what it is, is truly feels as though every week has its own unique World War III possibilities.
It was only a few years ago that we were worried about trading shots with Iran, after then-President Donald Trump took out one of the regime’s top terror generals, with Tehran responding by firing a volley of missiles in the general direction of US troops sleeping in Iraq.
Today we’re dealing with a Russian invasion of Ukraine that has seen more nuclear threats lobbed at the west than perhaps in any other time in history, with the Kremlin truly pushing the envelope of what the world will let them get away with.
And, amid this already-tense backdrop, China appears hellbent on the idea of taking Taiwan for their own, once and for all. This has US President Joe Biden using some strong language.
President Joe Biden said this week that the United States would defend Taiwan if China invaded, appearing to break with the US government’s stance of “strategic ambiguity” on the island.
His comments came in an interview that aired Sunday evening, when a 60 Minutes correspondent asked the president if US forces would defend Taiwan.
“Yes, if in fact there was an unprecedented attack,” Biden responded.
And that wasn’t all:
The president went on to emphasize his administration’s support for the “One China” policy, which recognizes the government in Beijing while allowing for informal ties with Taiwan.
“Taiwan makes their own judgments about their independence. We are not moving – we’re not encouraging their being independent. We’re not – that – that’s their decision,” Biden said Sunday.
China has long considered such rhetoric to be in violation of the “One China” policy, and the White House has often sought to correct Biden’s previous, similar suggestions.
The President’s suggestion had “WWIII” trending on Twitter on Monday morning.
