Bill Barr Defies Congress, Refusing to Testify Thursday Despite Continued Russian Threat

With the Russian threat to our democracy looming large, Barr’s refusal to testify over partisan issues looks rather petty…no matter what side of the aisle you hail from.

Mueller Report

Just what we need in our chaotic country:  More drama.

Of course, that statement was rife with cynicism and sarcasm, as our putrid pile of politicians continues to ratchet up the doom and gloom of Washington DC’s current predicament.  Yesterday’s grilling of Attorney General Bill Barr was just that – a politically-driven, melodramatic catfight, completely with metaphorical clawing and scratching that we should be embarrassed of.

The democrats, in their own circular logic, constantly berated Barr for legal decisions made far above Congress’ pay grade, and the republicans harped on about Hillary’s emails.  While the latter is a sticking point for conservatives, it certainly isn’t all that helpful at this point in American history, as Russia looks to silently neuter our great democracy in 2020 and beyond.

Not to mention that the optics on both sides were abhorrent, and likely saddened Americans who are seeking the truth about Russia’s attacks on our nation.

Now, unsurprisingly, Bill Barr is refusing to testify today in another congressional hearing, this time stating that he wasn’t willing to take questions from other attorneys.

Attorney General William Barr refused on Wednesday to testify before the House Judiciary Committee about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation because of a dispute about how he would be questioned.

His refusal is the latest and most confrontational step by the Trump administration to challenge Democrats who control the House of Representatives and are conducting wide-ranging investigations into the president.

The dispute between Barr and lawmakers centers on how they planned to question him at a hearing that had been scheduled for Thursday. Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., wanted the committee to include questioning by committee staffers, in addition to lawmakers.

The staffers in question would have likely been legally-proficient minds able to further annoy Barr and play the same semantic games that he played with democrats yesterday.

No matter what side of the aisle you reside on, Barr’s unwillingness to testify today is a problem for the nation at large.  This is the sort of obfuscation in the face of a very real Russian threat that looks petty in comparison.

Furthermore, in the future, when a democrat takes office again, will we allow their attorney general to do the same?

Barr will likely face a subpoena in the coming days.

California Bar’s Side Hustle: Fake COVID Vaccination Cards

Police were able to buy several of the phony cards last month.

As we begin to enter into whatever this new “normalcy” will be in the coming weeks, there are concerns among some that unvaccinated Americans could soon be treated like second-class citizens in their own country. This has already been a bit of an issue in certain industries, with airlines pushing hard to establish a coronavirus vaccine passport system, and several major league sports venues having declared that they will segregate the vaccinated and unvaccinated fans who attend their games. This has now spurred a strange side hustle for one California bar. The owner of a San Joaquin County bar was arrested this week for allegedly selling fake COVID-19 vaccination cards. Investigators say the operation ran for weeks out of the Old Corner Saloon in Clements, which has a population of 941. The local sheriff’s office got a tip that fake vaccine cards were being manufactured and sold out of the bar, complete with laminations. The investigation was fairly cut and dry. Investigators with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control then took over. “Undercover agents with our Special Operations Unit were able to purchase multiple cards in April,” said Luke Blehm, deputy division chief at the Alcoholic Beverage Control. “As a result, we also observed several sales of fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination cards to other patrons,” Blehm said. The owner of the bar was selling the cards for only $20.

Ron DeSantis Trolls Mainstream Media with Bill Signing Stunt

The outrage came quickly.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has long been a thorn in the side of the liberal left, and this week is certainly no different. DeSantis on Thursday signed one of the strictest voting enforcement bills in the nation, in a move that has been applauded by conservative groups around the country. Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida signed new voting legislation into law on Thursday. It enacts restrictions on voting by mail and at drop boxes, which Democrats and activists warn could suppress voter turnout. DeSantis, a Republican, signed the bill, which was passed by the GOP-controlled legislature last month, live on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” during an interview with the show’s hosts. Throughout the week, the governor had been holding more formal bill-signing ceremonies across the state as he signed bills into law. DeSantis argued that the bill protects the “integrity and transparency” of Florida’s elections and that after the 2020 election, which was successful, the changes will keep the state “ahead of the curve,” echoing the message Republicans have used for months to push back on criticism of their legislation. But DeSantis’ choice to bar all media outlets except for Fox News was controversial. DeSantis also made headlines on Friday for providing every law enforcement officer in the state with a $1,000 bonus.
