It would be absolutely impossible to go back in time and convince someone living in 2016 what the biggest headlines of 2019 would be. They simply wouldn’t believe you.
Obviously, at the beginning of 2016, even the most loyal republicans believed that Donald Trump had a 0% chance of taking the Oval Office from the well-oiled political machine known as The Clintons.
There would also be no way, no way, that you could get away with saying that Liz Warren would have failed a DNA test to prove her Cherokee heritage and still be the first to declare her intent to run for the President in 2020.
And finally, if I told you that a failed Senate candidate from Texas, who skateboarded around campaign events and speaks in alternating impressions of Barack Obama and JFK, was going to livestream his routine dental cleaning online, you would have had me checked in to the psych ward.
“So I’m here at the dentist and we’re going to continue our series on the people of the border,” O’Rourke says in a video posted on Instagram as he receives a dental cleaning.
O’Rourke, who represented a district in El Paso, then flips the camera in the direction of his hygienist, Diana, who recounts her time growing up near the U.S.-Mexico border.
Diana, wearing goggles and a mask over her face, said she was born in El Paso and that her father was a U.S. citizen. She added that her mother was born in a small town in Mexico and that she herself was a permanent resident in the U.S. while studying for her American citizenship.

“It was wonderful,” she said, before saying that she wants other Americans to realize that the region near the border is “a beautiful community.”
With the democratic one-upmanship game a very real thing, one can only shudder to think of what will be coming down the pipe.
