Over the course of the last several weeks, it has become incredibly obvious that California Governor Gavin Newsom thinks that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is going to be the GOP’s 2024 nominee for President. And, ergo, that Newsom himself is considering running on the Democratic ticket.
This is because Newsom has appeared obsessed with DeSantis for the last month or so, going so far as to buy TV ad time in Florida to bash the Sunshine State lawmaker, and challenging him to a CNN-hosted political debate.
Finally, those close to Newsom are coming clean.
The California governor, who’s already running ads in other states, is poised to challenge Vice President Kamala Harris
California Governor Gavin Newsom is “undeniably, unequivocally” planning to run for president in 2024 if President Biden chooses not to seek a second term, two individuals with knowledge of Newsom’s plans told TheWrap.
It seems rather certain at this point.
“After this midterm election is over, he absolutely is going to announce that he is running for the presidency once Biden announces that he is not running,” a leading California fundraiser with close ties to the Newsom family told TheWrap. “No ifs, ands or buts. He will run if Biden does not.”
The news comes just hours after President Biden refused to say for certain that he’d be running again in 2024 during an national television interview, after months of insisting on it.
