Chicago Mayor Tries Vilifying 'Guns' After Police Officer Killed

Over the weekend, the city of Chicago was once again marred by senseless and unparalleled tragedy, this time with a young and promising police officer killed in the line of duty.

Chicago has long been one of the nation’s most violent cities, with an uptick in the severity of the issue coinciding undeniably with a 1982 handgun ban that shifted power and control of the city away from law-abiding citizens and into the hands of the criminal underground who had no reverence for the law to begin with.

For decades, this dynamic mutated and evolved until such a time as funerals and birthday parties were soon turned into shooting galleries, and the rest of America could do nothing by watching in abject horror.

This week was no exception, but Mayor Lori Lightfoot appeared to have some seriously misplaced feelings about the situation.

Hours after Chicago police officer Ella French was killed during a traffic stop, Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) blamed “guns,” describing them as “a common enemy.”

Breitbart News reports that French was working a traffic stop Saturday night just after 9 p.m. when at least one suspect opened fire on her and the male officer who was her partner. The gunfire proved fatal for French and left the male officer in critical condition.

There were three suspects in the car from which the gunfire came: two males and a female. CNN notes that all three suspects are in custody.

But then came some seriously tone-deaf words from Lightfoot:

The idea that guns were somehow to blame here is an offensive mockery of the life of this young officer, and belittles an enormous issue that Chicago has been failing to recognize for nearly 40 years.
