CNN Identifies Dem Governor As REPUBLICAN After Blackface, KKK Photo Emerges
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is a Democrat.
Easy enough, right?
Not for CNN, apparently.
After racist photos from Northam’s past emerged on Friday afternoon, the embattled cable news network identified the governor as a Republican.
No joke.
@CNN, did you really just call him a republican in the lower third?
Being called fake news…
you do that to yourself.#Northam #NorthamMustResign #cnn #FakeNews pic.twitter.com/l2I61TOuf9— Ashley Dionne (@TaxationIsLame) February 2, 2019
Here’s a better look (notice the “R” next to Northam’s name?)…

Ralph had a very unfortunate nickname:
Ralph Northam's senior yearbook at VMI says one of his nicknames was "Coonman." I don't dare speculate as to what that means.

Many Democrats, as well as the NAACP, are calling for Northam to resign.
A series of prominent Democrats demanded Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s resignation on Friday, excoriating him for appearing in a racist yearbook photo showing one person dressed in blackface and another in the KKK’s signature white hood and robes.
The calls came from a number of 2020 presidential candidates, members of Congress and prominent liberal organizations, all of whom said Northam’s apology on the issue was not enough. The NAACP also called for Northam to leave office.
Those calls, however, were not echoed by Virginia Democrats, including Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Both said they were shocked and offended by the photos, but in separate statements both said it was time for the governor to think about what comes next for him and to listen to those he has offended.
Black face in any manner is always racist and never okay. No matter the party affiliation, we can not stand for such behavior, which is why the @NAACP is calling for the resignation of Virginia Governor @RalphNortham

Leaders are called to a higher standard, and the stain of racism should have no place in the halls of government. The Governor of Virginia should step aside so the public can heal and move forward together.

Northam apologized but said he will not resign.
From Fox News:
Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam apologized Friday for appearing in a “racist and offensive” photo on his 1984 medical school yearbook page that showed one man dressed in blackface and another in a KKK robe.
Northam – who has been under fire this week for comments made about a third-trimester abortion bill in his state – admitted to being one of the people in the photo, though it’s not clear which costume he is wearing.
Northam: “Earlier today, a website published a photograph of me from my 1984 medical school yearbook in a costume that is clearly racist and offensive.“
“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now.“
Here’s the photo:
Here’s Northam saying he won’t leave…
My fellow Virginians, earlier today I released a statement apologizing for behavior in my past that falls far short of the standard you set for me when you elected me to be your governor. I believe you deserve to hear directly from me. pic.twitter.com/1rSw1oxfrX
