DAVIDSON: Science & Religion — Seeking Enlightenment Throughout History

Let us not be slaves to scientific certitude.

I attended a lecture where an astronomer explained why Pluto had been demoted and was no longer considered a planet. Pluto is only 70% the diameter of our moon, and only 18% of Earth’s diameter. Discovered in 1930, it was number nine on the list of planets, was the most distant and coldest, and had the strangest orbit.

As telescopes became more powerful, and researchers grew more aware of the panoply of objects in our galaxy, Pluto was regarded as merely a planetoid in the Kuiper belt, among tens of thousands of celestial bodies in that section of our solar system. If Pluto was to still be considered a planet, at least six or seven other spherical masses, of more or less equal size, would have to be considered planets as well. Since none of them conform to the traditional standards for planets, Pluto was demoted.

Astronomers at the California Institute of Technology have been seeking a true ninth planet in the Kuiper Belt, after encountering evidence of its existence in early 2016. This potential planet is approximately ten times earth’s mass and perhaps 5,000 times Pluto’s mass.

So Much We Don’t Know

The above observations epitomize the ever-changing nature of our scientific knowledge base. We believe we know something to be true. Later, we discover more, often overturning what we previously “‘knew.” The most learned people on Earth once “knew” without question that the sun and the stars revolved around the earth. To astronomers who came later, the sun and the stars clearly did not revolve around the earth, but initially to say otherwise was to risk death.

Today, many people believe that evolution explains everything about life in the universe. It does not. No one can explain what put the Big Bang in motion and, tellingly, where matter originated. Without carbon and some level of heat and moisture, life cannot begin, and even when those factors are present, more often life does not begin.

It was once thought that life couldn’t exist at the bottom of the completely dark ocean. Today, we observe that the ocean floor is teeming with life and that life finds a way to thrive often in the absence of what is thought to be “ideal circumstances.”

Currently, some otherwise supposedly intelligent people don’t accept that the brain functioning in men and women is somewhat different. Men tend to excel in math and science, however, this is not to say women cannot excel in math and science. Our brains are wired differently. Women have other advantages in brain functioning.

As we proceed into the future, based on available scientific evidence much of what we “know” to be true will prove to be untrue, especially as we learn more about the universe, the stars, the galaxies, our own solar system, and even Earth itself.

My God Supersedes Your “god”

It’s been said that more people have died in the name of religion than for any other reason. Actually, most wars likely have been fought over territory. Tribal warfare, since the dawn of civilization, can be traced back not only to differences in culture and lifestyle, but also to differences in appearance, inclination, and one’s respective deity.

Every religion has tenuous precepts and tenets that even the wisest scholars cannot explain. Religion is interpreted by mortals on earth and, understandably, is subject to human predispositions and biases. Some religions have given man a vaulted position on earth and woman a lesser position. Many religions suffer from a parallax view: Ours is “the way” and your way is inferior.

Religions carefully lay out what God has intended for us, and how God wants us to worship him. Yet, no one can prove that they’ve actually consulted directly with God. Thus, every religious text ever written, every set of laws or commandments, and all religious customs represent the accumulation of man’s interpretation of events on earth and how they might relate to the heavens.

Science and Religion are Here to Stay

It is prudent, even praiseworthy, to improve our knowledge of science and add to the storehouse of what we believe to be scientific facts. And, there is little reason to abandon religion when it brings peace and comfort to devotees, and spreads goodwill, enabling humankind to live in harmony.

Let us approach science with more diligence, recognizing that what we “know” today could well be undone by what we discover tomorrow. Let’s approach religion with more tolerance, recognizing that every group feels that they are right and has a direct relation to God. Let us not be slaves to scientific certitude or to religious dogma because, quite simply, no one has all the answers, and no one is ever likely to have them.

Gen. Milley’s Overstepping was Habitual, According to Witnesses

His Chinese collusion was nothing new, it seems.

Last week, Americans learned several shocking tidbits of information regarding the last several weeks of the Trump presidency, and it infuriated much of the nation.

The most prominent offense came from General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who was reported to have taken extracurricular actions to preemptively stymy any plans that then-President Trump may have had to either attack China or use our nation’s nuclear arsenal.

In the case of the China story, Milley was said to have made phone calls to his counterparts in Beijing, assuring them that Trump wouldn’t be launching any sort of strike against China during his final days in office.  Milley also made it clear that he would warn them if any such plan was coming to fruition.

This had Americans concerned, believing that Milley had overstepped his role and circumvented the authority of the Commander in Chief.

Now, a witness from inside the administration has suggested that this sort of behavior wasn’t abnormal for Milley.

E. Casey Wardynski, a former assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs, claimed that Milley — who, according to the book, “Peril,” by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, called his Chinese counterpart twice to tell him that the US would not attack Beijing — routinely violated the bounds of his authority.

Wardynski said Milley and chief of staff of the US Army Gen. James McConville engaged in a “pattern of behavior” to thwart President Donald Trump.

“These kinds of behaviors and this willingness for military leaders to exceed their authorities and ignore authorities of the civilian officials appointed over them … positions under the Constitution and laws of the country was not something that came to them on Jan. 8,” Wardynski told Fox News.

And then, tersely:

“It was something that they had done for a while.”

Milley has so-far resisted calls for his resignation following the incident.

Political Prisoners in America: the January 6th Capitol Occupiers

No can passively sit by and hope that things will turn out for the better.

The United States of America was founded based on a constitution and amendments that guarantee rights to the individual; a republic where laws prevail, to be dispensed impartially; where unlawful search and seizure is not permitted; and where due process matters.

We are supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave; the nation which immigrants from around the world yearn to reach; the beacon of democracy and the shining example on Earth of a free people in a free land. Nevertheless, the Biden Administration, has taken action unprecedented in our history. It is treating those individuals who inhabited the U.S. Capitol on January 6th as if they are murderous terrorists.

The people that Biden is holding, in many cases for months on end in solitary confinement, are being denied their fundamental rights as American citizens.

An Insurrection? According to Whom?

Large numbers of people who entered the Capitol that day were ushered in by the Capitol guards. They merely walked through doors that were held open for them. The claims of insurrection are entirely ridiculous. No one had weapons.

How do you mount an insurrection with no armaments? Virtually every Capitol occupier had either a plane reservation or car ride ready for that evening or the next day. They did not intend to stay. In short, no organized attempt to overthrow the government was underway, and every Biden official knows that.

The ranks of actual Trump supporters, however, were infiltrated by members of Antifa and true insurrectionists who sought to create a false flag, making it seem as if Donald Trump and Trump inspired supporters intended to overthrow the U.S. government.

Trump supporters had no intention of overthrowing the United States government – it is total hogwash as is known by anyone who is familiar with the facts. Ashley Babbitt, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was killed by a Capitol guard. She posed no threat, however, carried no weapon, and based on the more rambunctious activity of some Capitol occupiers did nothing to earn her fate.

Angel Harrelson, whose husband is among the incarcerated, started a petition to Florida Senator Rick Scott (R). She implored government officials to “Free our political prisoners now! They are being mistreated and tortured. They are innocent until proven guilty. We want the public to see all footage from inside of the capital, now, with no cuts on footage, and no bits and pieces here and there!” She explained that she is one of the family members with a spouse in political prison.

Biden and Company Keep Reaching New Lows

The Biden Administration, and its incalculably undemocratic, unlawful, and despicable approach to administering justice, is stifling attempts to ensure that these incarcerated individuals receive lawful and constitutional protections. Justice actually must be served before and during the legal proceedings for any of the incarcerated.

What an outrage that a petition even needs to be created, circulated, signed, and submitted. When, indeed, do we petition for basic Constitutional protections, in this case, from our own government?

Biden’s handlers know full well about the treasonous behavior in which they are engaged. They feel all-powerful, however, and appear unconcerned. They’ve got the sycophantic press on their side as well as multi-millions of gullible Democrats, liberals, and progressives who believe that Biden is a kind man, his administration is both fair and just, and the Capitol occupiers are in league with the devil. As usual, the exact opposite is true.

For many decades, the U.S. Department of Justice has engaged in egregious acts of prosecutorial misconduct. DOJ prosecuting attorneys seek convictions by any means necessary. If that involves withholding evidence, delaying court cases, and bleeding the persecuted financially dry, then so be it. Within a 97% conviction rate, as a nation, we have crossed the line into banana republic territory.

Stand Strong, Speak Loudly

Our voices need to be heard: Write to your Congressional representatives, to your Senators, to the editors of your newspapers, and to the gatekeepers of information and communication in our society. This includes the wannabe autocrats at Facebook, Google, Amazon, Twitter, etc, who don’t fool us with their rigged algorithms and ‘community standards.’

The contortion of real news by the Leftist gatekeepers, the views that they push, and the censorship in which they’ve been engaged, for far too long, will not diminish us. We know their end game: it is total control of the masses, ever to be ruled by a fraudulently elected ruling class, backed by über-liberal billionaires who believe they are the anointed ones.

No can passively sit by and hope that things will turn out for the better.
