Desparate Dems Issue Ambitious Subpoena in Jan 6 Probe

The Dems can only be this bold for a few more weeks before it begins affecting their 2022 electoral aspirations.

For those on the left who still believe that the January 6th select committee will deliver them their preferred answers on the subject of January 6th, there is some bad news on the horizon.

The committee is almost certainly operating on a stunted timeline, with little chance that they’ll actually achieve much at all before the Democrats lose control of Congress in the 2022 midterms.  Or, in a possibly more likely scenario, as the writing on the wall of that election draws nearer, the committee itself will be forced to dial back its ferociousness in order to avoid criticisms that could completely wipe out the Democrats’ chances of electoral success.

In essence, the more frantic they act within the committee, the more likely it is that they’ll fall out of political favor.

It’s a catch-22 of massive proportions, and so the Democrats are getting all of their bold action out of the way as early as possible, including the introduction of a new subpoena that could send them down a fairly conspiratorial path.

The House select committee investigating the US Capitol insurrection plans to subpoena John Eastman, a conservative lawyer who had worked with then-President Donald Trump’s legal team and tried to convince then-Vice President Mike Pence that he could overturn the election results on January 6, a committee aide told CNN on Tuesday.

The aide noted that a subpoena would be avoidable if Eastman voluntarily chose to cooperate with the committee’s inquiry.

The Washington Post first reported news of the expected subpoena.

Earlier Tuesday, Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat who serves on the panel, told CNN that the committee needs “to determine to what extent there was an organized effort against Vice President Pence and we believe that, you know, some of the actors’ names have become known, including John Eastman, who laid it out in a memo.”

Of course, the threat of a subpoena will only draw out the committee’s work, as they have yet to establish a true understanding of how executive privilege will be employed in the case.  Should Eastman’s testimony be delayed into early next year, it could be too late for the Democrats altogether, as the midterm massacre they face will take precedent when it comes to their political future.

Polling Shows Abysmal Support for Biden Reelection…Among Democrats

The numbers are simply staggering.

US President Joe Biden’s approval ratings are abysmal.  They’re so terrible, in fact, that the White House really has no way of denying it any longer.  Instead, they’ve turned to a strategy of simply suggesting that Biden will run for reelection again, essentially putting off all of the controversy until the voters have a chance to chime in.

It’s a slick trick, that’s for sure, but the latest polling among Democrats now shows why this is a terrible idea.

Just over one-third of Democrats want to see President Joe Biden as the candidate on the 2024 Democrat presidential ticket, an I&I/TIPP poll released Monday found.

The survey asked respondents, “Who do you want to see run for president on the Democratic ticket in 2024?”

Overall, 22 percent said Biden, followed by 12 percent who said Vice President Kamala Harris, four percent who said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and three percent who said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA), and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. The remaining potential candidates garnered two percent support or less. Thirty-one percent, overall, say they are unsure.

It gets worse…

Even among Democrats, specifically, Biden fails to see overwhelming support, as only 37 percent say they want to see him run again on the Democrat ticket in the next presidential election cycle. Another 16 percent of Democrats chose Harris, and 13 percent, overall, remain unsure.

37 percent of independents say they are “not sure” who they want to see run on the Democrat ticket, but only eight percent say it should be Biden.

And then, in a troubling blow to Biden’s perceived ability to snatch up votes in the political middle, only 8% of independents said that they were in favor of Biden running again.
