DOJ Looks to Intervene in Cases Pertaining to Texas Abortion Clinics

The State of Texas has been the talk of the nation this week, after a controversial abortion law was upheld by the Supreme Court, triggering liberals and other pro-choice advocates into a rage.

Now, the famously-independent Lone Star State is working overtime to defend herself from a number of different angles, including what appears to be a serious challenge to the concept of states’ rights being cultivated by the Biden administration.

The latest affront to the sovereignty of Texas comes from the Department of Justice.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said the Justice Department would “protect those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services” under a federal law known as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.

Garland said in a statement that federal prosecutors are still urgently exploring options to challenge the Texas law. He said the Justice Department would enforce the federal law “in order to protect the constitutional rights of women and other persons, including access to an abortion.”

The federal law, commonly known as the FACE Act, prohibits physically obstructing or using the threat of force to intimidate or interfere with a person seeking reproductive health services. The law also prohibits damaging property at abortion clinics and other reproductive health centers.

The Biden administration has been unwavering in their opposition to the Texas law, and there is no doubt that a number of legal and political attacks are still to come for the people of the Lone Star State.
