After years of media malaise being hurled at he and his political empire, Donald Trump is taking the time to hit back at one of the most consistent offenders.
CNN this week was alerted by Trump that they were about to receive one heck of a wake-up call regarding their coverage of the likely 2024 contender. And, for many who are a part of the MAGA Movement, the announcement was long overdue.
Former President Donald Trump notified CNN of his intention to file a lawsuit against the network for “repeated defamatory statements” in a statement Wednesday.Advertisement - story continues below
Ifrah Law, a Washington-based law firm, filed a Notice of Intent ordering the network to “publish a full and fair correction, apology, or retraction” in published pieces or broadcasts that allegedly made “false statements” about the former president under Florida Statute § 770.02. The notice warned that failure to issue an apology will result in a lawsuit.
The move could bring Trump 2020 election concerns to the forefront as well:
Trump warned he will be suing other media outlets that have “defamed and defrauded the public” about the 2020 presidential election results.
“I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me,” Trump said. “I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election. I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!”
While Donald Trump has not yet declared anything official for 2024, there have been more than a few hints as to his inclination, and this lawsuit could very well be designed to keep CNN from speculating too wildly about the bombastic candidate when the time comes to hit the campaign trail.
