EU Stalwarts Pressure Putin Over Ukrainian Sailors at G20
As the globe’s most powerful leaders meet in Argentina, the world will be watching closely, hanging on every handshake and eye-roll.
Certainly, there have already been a number of moments that gave rise to concerns over the state of the planet. One of the most concerning was the tense exchange between French President Emannuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
And let’s not ignore the chilling and worrisome joviality exuded by bin Salman and Putin, with both men sharing a grandiose and lighthearted high-five.

If that doesn’t look like the behind the scenes footage of a couple of Bond villains, I don’t know what does.
Now, however, G20 is pushing back against Putin over his recent aggression in Ukraine, with Emannuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel leading the charge.
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel pressed Russian Vladimir Putin to release Ukrainian sailors who were seized along with their ships by Russia last month, Putin’s spokesman said.
Merkel and Macron met Putin separately on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Argentina. Putin told them that the issue of the sailors was a matter for the courts, his spokesman said.
The tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been piqued over the course of the last 4 years after Putin’s military annexed Crimea, sending the two nations into a tense standoff over the disputed property.
