Even the left-wing Washington Post had to give Joe Biden four Pinocchios for his lie that the Second Amendment has always been barred Americans from owning cannons.

During his gun policy speech last week, Biden claimed that Americans have never been allowed to own a cannon.

“And I might add: The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon,” Biden said.

This is an outright lie. Not only did the Second Amendment never bar people from buying a cannon, it doesn’t even stop them today. Anyone today can buy a reproduction of a Revolutionary War or Civil War cannon. They aren’t cheap, granted. Prices start at $20,000, however you can get one and without any special licenses.

Even the Washington Post had to note that Biden lied. The paper cited David Kopel, research director and Second Amendment project director at the Independence Institute, who said that Biden was just plain wrong.

“Everything in that statement is wrong,” Kopel said, adding that after the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791, “there were no federal laws about the type of gun you could own, and no states limited the kind of gun you could own.”

Indeed, the Second Amendment itself notes that a “well-regulated militia” was called for by the Constitution. And in those days, you could not have a militia without being fully armed — including cannons.

The Post gave Biden its worst rating.

“Some readers might think this is a relatively inconsequential flub. But we disagree,” the paper’s fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, wrote. “Every U.S. president has a responsibility to get American history correct, especially when he’s using a supposed history lesson in service of a political objective. The president’s push for more gun restrictions is an important part of his political platform, so he undercuts his cause when he cites faux facts.”

Biden earned himself four “Pinocchios” for his lies about the Second Amendment.

“Moreover, Biden has already been fact-checked on this claim — and it’s been deemed false,” Kessler added. “We have no idea where he conjured up this notion about a ban on cannon ownership in the early days of the Republic, but he needs to stop making this claim.”

Once again, we see that Democrats know nothing about the Constitution, our history, or the law. So, they just lie with claims that fit their anti-American narrative.

The Constitution lays out the nuts and bolts of how the United States is to run, but the Declaration of Independence is our mission statement. 245 years after it was written, that mission statement of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness still defines the freest country God put on this Earth. In today’s environment where the radical left is trying to take away America’s freedoms and turn our republic into a socialist nation, This Independence Day, it is well worth your time to read the document that explains America’s freedoms, and where they come from: The Declaration Of Independence. The Declaration Of Independence explained to our British rulers that we won’t allow them to take our freedoms away. It starts off by saying that the government serves at the will of the people not the other way around: When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. My personal favorite part is where that it says our rights don’t come from government it comes from God. In other words, the Government is not empowered to take away our rights (socialists take heed). 244 Independence Days and Counting, But What Does it all Mean?

Today America enjoys the celebration of 244 years of existence by noting the day we declared our independence from Britain.



Today America enjoys the celebration of 244 years of existence as a nation by noting the day we declared our independence from our Mother nation, England. Sadly, that celebration has, for too many, become the “July Fourth” holiday, a day of picnics, rote parades, “white sales,” and for some a day off work. Of course, we should not and don’t celebrate any “July Fourth.” We celebrate Independence Day, the day we formally separated from our parent nation and took those first unsteady steps into the world as a nation of our own. So, what is this Independence Day all about? Well, for one thing we celebrate the gifts that our Creator has given us. That’s right, our Founding Fathers started this nation celebrating the gifts of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and those natural rights given to us by God, rights that no man can take away from us, rights no man can legitimately prevent us from observing. Contrary to the God averse America we have devolved into, the Declaration mentions God, the Creator, or the divine multiple times and the Founders rested their entire claim of liberty and freedom on the claim that no government can legitimately take away the natural rights that mankind should and must enjoy. The fact is the Founders did not want a nation free from religion (there is no such founding principle as a “wall of separation” as many think of it today, but that is another story for another day). This is not a Godless nation, but a nation based on Christian ideals. Secondly, the Declaration of Independence is also a list of the wrongs and slights that England perpetrated against us.
