If there is anything that we’ve learned about Florida in our time on this planet, it’s that the Sunshine State is no stranger to the strange.

The proclivity of Florida residents to find themselves in bizarre or precarious situations is second to none, as evidenced by the fact that there are entire websites dedicated to the weird and wild goings-on in the swampy south.

This week provided us yet another odd and likely tragic tale.

A Florida man has been declared missing after allegedly attempting to jet ski from south Florida to the Bahamas.

Charles Walker, 52, was last seen on Pompano Beach around 5 p.m. on Sept. 23, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Walker’s family said he was planning on jet skiing from the beach to Bimini in the Bahamas, a distance of around 115 miles.

While in the water, Walker’s last known location was 15 nautical miles off the coast of West Palm Beach, per the Coast Guard.

His loved ones were quick to release information that could help someone potentially locate Walker:

He is 5 feet and 9 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds and has gray hair and green eyes, according to a description provided by the family.

It was unclear whether or not Walker had attempted this journey previously.
