One of the most looming, worrisome questions in all of American politics at this very moment is whether or not Donald Trump will find himself on the business end of some sort of indictment…and what the national reaction to such a bold move would be.
The Department of Justice is currently investigating whether or not Trump illegally stored government documents at his home in Mar-a-Lago, after sending armed FBI agents to Mar-a-Lago to spend the day rifling through the resort. After having absconded with boxes upon boxes of items, The Don went on the offensive, claiming that he had declassified everything before leaving office.
As the fight goes on, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now suggesting that Trump will be indicted, but likely due to corruption at the DOJ.
Wednesday night on FOX News, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted that former President Donald Trump will be indicted for mishandling classified documents at his Florida home after he left the White House.
Gingrich called this the “most corrupt Justice Department in all of American history.”Trending:
“You have corruption from the Attorney General, to the head of the FBI, to senior elements of the FBI,” he said. “You have collusion from a wide range of the intelligence community. You had, I think it was 50 some intelligence senior officials who signed a letter last year that we now know is a total lie, none of whom have recanted.”
And then there is issue of jurisdiction…
“I fully expect the Justice Department to indict President Trump in a DC court, a district where he got 5.6 percent of the vote. So by 19 to one, the jury is likely to be against him.”
Any indictment of the former President would be a seismically unprecedented event, with one Senator having already predicted that such a move could cause unrest.
