Hollywood Actresses Among 40+ Nabbed in Bizarre Fraud Case

Where greed and education collide, there is little room for etiquette: This is AWFUL.

For many Americans, the sort of fame and fortune that even moderately-compensated Hollywood types receive would be plenty to build an incredible life around.

For Hollywood, however, it seems like it’s never enough.  There’s always some next hustle to initiate, or another product to hock.

Or, in the case of a few of the nation’s former leading ladies:  College entrance scams.

Hollywood actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are among at least 40 people charged in a $25 million college entrance exam cheating scheme, according to court documents unsealed Tuesday.

The alleged scam focused on getting students admitted to elite universities as recruited athletes, regardless of their athletic abilities, and helping potential students cheat on their college exams, according to the indictment unsealed in Boston.

Now for the kicker:

Authorities said the FBI investigation, code named Operation Varsity Blues, uncovered a network of wealthy parents who paid thousands of dollars to a California man who boosted their childrens’ chances of gaining entrance into elite colleges, such as Yale and Stanford, by paying people to take tests for their children, bribing test administrators to allow it to happen, and bribing college coaches and administrators to identify the applicants as athletes.

Just how heinous was the scheme?

Prosecutors said the scheme was masterminded by William Rick Singer, the founder of a for-profit college preparation business based in Newport Beach, California.

Parents paid Singer between $15,000 and $75,000 per test for someone else to take the SAT or ACT exams in place of their college-aged sons or daughters, according to the court papers.

Singer facilitated the cheating by advising students to seek “extended time on the exams, including by having their children purport to have learning disabilities in order to obtain medical documentation that ACT,” the indictment says.

Where greed and education collide, there is little room for etiquette.

These parents, teachers, and celebrities should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Former White House Counsel Gives Nadler and Co. Cold Shoulder

We will undoubtedly be hearing a lot about contempt in the coming days.

Jerry Nadler

There is a legislative war brewing on Capitol Hill this week, and Don McGahn just fired one of the first shots. McGahn, who was a key witness in Robert Mueller’s 22 month-long investigation into Russia election interference in 2016, has defied a subpoena to testify before Congress. This isn’t terribly surprising, given that the White House had instructed McGahn to do so. The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee vowed Tuesday to go to court if necessary to seek former White House Counsel Don McGahn’s testimony, after he defied a subpoena and skipped a committee hearing at President Trump’s direction. The move infuriated Democrats and touched off what could be another high-profile battle over holding a Trump official in contempt of Congress. “Let me be clear, this committee will hear Mr. McGahn’s testimony, even if we have to go to court to secure it,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y, said at the beginning of the hearing which McGahn did not attend. Nadler is undoubtedly gong to seek a charge of contempt for McGahn. This would mark the second Trump administration official to be charged with contempt of Congress, following Attorney General Bill Barr who was booked by the legislative branch for his refusal to comply with a subpoena for the full and un-redacted Mueller report weeks ago. The next step for the democrats is a doozy, as they will need to decide if and how to enforce their contempt.  Will Bill Barr be dragged in front of Congress in handcuffs by the Sergeant at Arms?  Will Don McGahn be fined into bankruptcy and disbarred? Given the reticence of the White House to indulge Jerry Nadler’s follies, we will likely find out the answers to these questions sooner rather than later.

Sci-Fi Film BLASTED for Kathy Griffin-esque Trump Stunt

Have we learned nothing from the violence in America?

You would think that Hollywood would have learned their lesson. Our nation is in a pickle, to put it mildly.  We have an infotainment industry that is determined to anger us to the point of violence, all so that they can set up cameras and broadcast the whole thing to the world.  Americans bashing each other in the street, as horrific an idea as that sounds, makes for great ratings on television, allowing CNN and their kin to hike their advertising rates and rake in the money. It’s a dirty job, but the mainstream media pigs seem to absolutely adore wallowing in it. But there are some very real consequences to this sort of hyperbolic, bucolic imagery, as we discovered when Kathy Griffin held up a photorealistic, bloodied, decapitated wax head of President Trump. Just 14 days later, a former Bernie Sanders campaign worker named James T. Hodgkinson attempted to assassinate the entire GOP charity baseball team. Apparently Griffin’s dog whistle and the subsequent violence have taught us nothing, as evidenced by the press packet for a new “film”. It’s called When Women Rule the World and the poster image — circulating at the Cannes Market and in trade publications including The Hollywood Reporter — features a bikini-clad woman (a Melania Trump-type character called Maria Putin, played by actress Anna Hera) holding two decapitated heads. One is bloodied up to look like Trump in a Make America Great Again hat and a shaggy blond wig. The other, a gray-skinned, bug-eyed zombie. “Meet the First Lady of the Future with her Heads of State,” reads the tagline for the film from writer-director-producer Sheldon Silverstein. On the film’s official website, Silverstein describes himself as “an internationally accomplished” auteur who lived in Rome for 20 years and “worked with such notable directors as…
