House GOP Urges President Trump To Demand Special Counsel To Investigate 2020 Election

Almost two dozen GOP members of the House are now urging President Donald Trump to have Attorney General William Barr appoint a special counsel to investigate the 2020 election.

The group of Republicans are being led by Rep. Lance Gooden of Texas. A letter from the group was sent to the president on Wednesday morning. The letter itself was obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The letter bares a near identical resemblance to one that was sent by Gooden recently to just the president alone, which was signed by 22 members of the House. Five other individuals agreed to the letter but did not sign it.

via Washington Examiner:

The letter comes on the heels of a continuing string of legal defeats for the Trump campaign and GOP-adjacent groups that have sought to overturn the election, which President-elect Joe Biden won with 306 Electoral College votes.

The letter requests that the president directs “Attorney General Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate irregularities in the 2020 election” because “the American people deserve a definitive resolution to the uncertainty hovering over the outcome of our election, but legitimate questions of voter fraud remain unanswered.”

It does not go into details about the “legitimate questions” surrounding allegations of voter fraud.

A little over a week ago, Barr stated that the Justice Department had “not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.” The attorney general then went on to dismantle a “conspiracy theory” that said voting machines “were programmed essentially to skew the election results,” stating that the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department investigated the claims and found nothing to substantiate it.

There are far too many claims of voter fraud for this all to be make-believe. It’s the duty of the president to challenge the election results if he feels that they are inaccurate and that a group of political insiders are attempting to sway the results of the election toward Joe Biden.

This is about defending free and fair elections. It’s critical that Trump do everything in his power to make sure that people can trust in the system. If we can’t, then our republic is dead.
