House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Puts Together Coronavirus Oversight Committee

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has put together a coronavirus oversight committee to oversee the distribution of the billions of federal dollars that have been set aside for use as part of the country’s response to the coronavirus outbreak sweeping the country.

Pelosi noted on Thursday that the main task of the committee would be to “prevent waste, fraud, and abuse” and would be a bipartisan effort. She stated that she’s also appointed House Majority Whip James Clyburn to oversee the panel.

This is truly hilarious. Democrats overseeing a committee dedicated to cracking down on waste spending, fraud, and abuse? Seriously? It’s like hiring a convicted bank robber to guard the vault.

Pelosi said, “The committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to coronavirus and to assure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being wisely and efficiently spent to save lives, deliver relief, and benefit our economy.”

The House Speaker also said the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis — that’s what she named the panel — would not only take a look at the billions of dollars in federal aid approved by Congress, but also “how the private sector reacts to the funds they receive as well.”

The relief package that was approved by both houses of Congress was worth a whopping $2.2 trillion. Included in the legislation was a provision that enables Congress to set up a panel that will oversee the $500 billion in federal loans to companies that are struggling to stay afloat during this unprecedented crisis.

Here’s more from Washington Examiner:

Pelosi told reporters the panel would help ensure states and medical facilities were getting the resources they need.

“How can we work together to make sure the resources get where they need to get in a priority timeline,” Pelosi said, describing the purpose of the panel.
