As Joe Biden continues to stumble through his first 18 months in the White House, our nation has a dire issue developing: A pending economic calamity that is being fueled by the inaction at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Biden-flation, (as some in the media have declared it), is still on the rise, with consumer prices fluctuating in ways that we haven’t seen since the early 1980’s. And, as this unchecked fiscal fracas continues, it’s taking some of Memorial Day’s traditions with it.
With costs for ground beef and chicken breasts at all-time highs, consumers have few alternatives to switch to different proteins — so some may skip them entirely.Advertisement - story continues below
The US Memorial Day holiday on Monday is considered the unofficial opening of the outdoor grilling season, and the surging costs are pointing to a disappointing start. Price pain in meat comes after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine stalled crop exports in the Black Sea, pushing up the costs of animal feed. Even prices for propane used to power grills have soared.
Experts had some wild suggestions as far as replacements go.
“The inflationary environment is starting to take its toll,” said Michael Nepveux, senior analyst for animal protein at Stable USA, which offers risk-management tools for some commodities. ‘‘Instead of steak or chicken, we might have pasta or a pizza.’’
Biden’s unchecked inflation has been a key driver of his low approval ratings, and experts are now beginning to openly fear that some sort of recession may be coming over the horizon.
