J6 Committee Preparing 'Criminal' Referrals as Probe Draws to a Close
For months, the Republican Party has been warning that the work of the January 6th select committee could and would be used for political gain, and he next phase of the group’s work could reveal just how far they would go to this end.
That’s because the committee is now suggesting that they’ll be issuing criminal referrals at the end of their probe – something that could cause a seismic shift in American politics as we know it.
The Jan. 6 committee will make criminal referrals to the Department of Justice as the panel wraps up its investigation into the events that led up to the deadly riot.

Bennie Thompson (D-MS), the chairman of the committee, told reporters, saying “we will” on the question of whether referrals will be pursued. He added that consideration of witnesses potentially committing perjury is “part of the discussion,” per CNN.
Though the committee decided to send referrals to the DOJ, it is reportedly still considering whom to refer and on what grounds.
The process was ongoing.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the Jan. 6 committee, said Tuesday, “We’re in the process of bringing forward different recommendations to the full committee for consideration.”

There is no telling whether or not former President Donald Trump would be targeted by such action, and the committee would be wise to consider the full implications of such a maneuver – particularly if they wish to maintain their alleged reputation of political neutrality now that Trump has announced his candidacy for 2024’s presidential race.
