Jobless Claims Have Fallen To The Lowest Level Since Mid-March

Published

President Trump just keeps getting good news when it comes to the economic front. The Labor Department’s latest report has revealed that new numbers of jobless claims to receive unemployment benefits has dropped to 881,000 last week, which is the lowest numbers we’ve seen since mid-March.

Forecasters had predicted 950,000 new jobless claims, but thankfully, the actual numbers were much lower.

We’re on the mend, folks.

The drop hints at a slowdown in layoffs, which would be good news for the reeling labor market. But it also could be an artifact of changes the Labor Department made to its calculation of jobless claims. The agency employed a new methodology for adjusting for seasonal changes in employment, such as teachers returning to work or students quitting their jobs to return to school. The extreme rise in jobless claims caused by the pandemic made such adjustments difficult.

An additional 760,000 workers applied for benefits through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, which provides for unemployment insurance for people sidelined by the epidemic who normally wouldn’t be eligible for benefits, such as gig workers whose business dried up.

Seasonally unadjusted claims for regular benefits were just over 833,000 last week and have been trending lower, suggesting that there has been real underlying improvement in the labor market.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the economy was one of President Trump’s greatest strengths. Conservatives soon became concerned once lockdowns started happening that perhaps this would strip him of his greatest weapons against the left.

However, that’s proven not to be the case. The economy is now rebounding, so that will no doubt look good on his record. But what’s really helping Trump at the moment is the lack of leadership put on display by the Democratic Party in major cities where Black Lives Matter and Antifa thugs have burned neighborhoods to the ground and nothing has been done to stop it.

Had to be done.

Donald Trump accomplished more in one term than anybody thought possible. He managed to make even many “never Trump” Republicans see the light, with the way he went about business in the Oval Office. Unfortunately, Trump will not be able to serve a consecutive term and continue to expose government malfeasance. That being said, there’s still a whole lot POTUS can give us before leaving 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. on the 20th. Joe is quite the card, even after all these decades. WATCH: Joe Biden: “I know President Trump likes to take credit for the economy… Just look at the facts, not the alternative facts. President Trump inherited an economy from Obama-Biden administration that was given to him — just like he inherited everything else in his life.” https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1130179564351741952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

School Featured In ‘Remember the Titans’ Might Be Renamed ‘Kamala Harris High’

Great movie, terrible idea.

Giving Kamala Harris the title of vice president is pretty awful. Senator was bad enough. But now she’s going to be honored with her name on a school? What’s next? Forget Harriet Tubman and put the woman who slept her way into politics on the $20? From TDW: T.C. Williams High School, well known for its prominent role in the popular Disney film “Remember The Titans”, could soon be renamed as “Kamala Harris High School.” In November, the Alexandria City School Board voted unanimously to remove Williams’ name due to his support of segregation while serving as superintendent of the Alexandria, VA, school system. According to the school, Williams was a “staunch segregationist whose views could not have been more inconsistent with the vibrant, diverse and inclusive place we know today.” Students are being given the chance to vote. The final decision will be made in April. Other options the kids have to choose from are “George Floyd High School” and “Ruth Bader Ginsburg High School.” If it came down to Kamala, George, or Ruth, you’d have to go with RBG High…right?? Here’s a clip from the film… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYp94Kk8AdE
