Journalists Lose as 58% Believe the Media are the Enemy of the State

A recent Rasmussen poll finds that media bias has become so bad that 58 percent truly believe that journalists are the enemy of the state.

The question Rasmussen put to its respondents was unequivocal, reading: “Do you agree or disagree with this statement: The media ‘are truly the enemy of the people?'”

That’s pretty straight forward. Not much room for error there.

The poll found that 34 percent strongly agreed that the media are the enemy of all Americans, and 24 percent somewhat agreed. For those who disagreed, 13 percent somewhat disagreed, and 23 percent strongly disagreed.

Notice that the results here. Only 24 percent strongly disagreed that the media are the enemy.

Respondents also felt that fake news was a big, big problem.

When asked, “how serious is the ‘fake news’ problem in the media?” 83 percent said very serious, 55 percent said somewhat, and 28 percent said serious. Less than 20 percent said it isn’t that serious.

The split by party isn’t really that wide, either. 92 percent of Republicans said fake news is a major problem. But 74 percent of Democrats agreed. Even the largest number of Democrats find the media to be a problem, and the media is on their side!

These are devastating numbers for the media, and it shows that they won’t be able to repair this rift between themselves and America any time soon.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters was conducted between July 7 and 8. The Margin of Sampling Error: +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence
