JUST A DRILL: NASA Plans Enormous Mock Asteroid Strike to Gauge Preparedness

While the impact may be hypothetical, these space-saviors are still hustling.

There are plenty of threats to our existence out there in this world of ours, and even more concerns once we expand our scope to include the mysterious universe around us.

Here on earth, we find ourselves battling pollution, disease, war, famine, overpopulation, and hatred in order to keep our civilization effectively upright.  Of course, these are all issues that only exist today because of the actions of man, meaning that we have no one to blame but ourselves.

What about the the larger, extinction-level threats that we face from the deep unknowns of space?  Our planet has undoubtedly been rocked by rogue space rocks in the past, leading to death and destruction on scales that we may never witness again.

NASA, for their part, is keeping any eye on our preparedness for just such an event with a drill this week that imagines an asteroid stinging our planet in the coming days.

Though the drill is run every two years by asteroid scientists around the world, the European Space Agency has decided to share the event publicly so everyone can see what would happen and what actions might be taken to mitigate the damage.

“The first step in protecting our planet is knowing what’s out there,” says Rüdiger Jehn, ESA’s Head of Planetary Defense, in a statement. “Only then, with enough warning, can we take the steps needed to prevent an asteroid strike altogether, or to minimize the damage it does on the ground.”

It isn’t just NASA pushing the envelope in space protection either.

SpaceX, a company under the umbrella of Tesla mastermind Elon Musk, was recently granted a $69 million contract by the space agency to help develop technology that could deflect potential incoming asteroids.

Seattle Police Chief Shreds City Council After Angry Activists Target Her Home

Published

The chief of police for the city of Seattle has come out hard against city council for allowing “mob rule” in the city after angry activists — the same folks who claim to be out for equality and tolerance — targeted her home over the weekend, which caused fear to spread among her neighbors. Folks, no matter what side of the issue you stand on, the fact that individuals are feeling threatened by acts of violence and rioting due to the work of these people and their unhinged behavior is totally unacceptable. Here’s more on this from The Daily Wire: “I wanted to update you on recent events, particularly those that occurred late last night,” Best wrote in a letter addressed to City Council President Lorena González and Public Safety Chair Lisa Herbold. “A residence of mine in Snohomish County was targeted by a large group of aggressive protestors late last night. My neighbors were concerned by such a large group, but they were successful in ensuring the crowd was not able to trespass or engage in other illegal behavior in the area, despite repeated attempts to do so. Currently, the local sheriff (not SPD resources) is monitoring the situation.” “I urge both of you, and the entire council, to stand up for what is right. These direct actions against elected officials, and especially civil servants like myself, are out of line with and go against every democratic principle that guides our nation,” Best continued. “Before this devolves into the new way of doing business by mob rule here in Seattle, and across the nation, elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics.” “The events of this summer were initiated in a moment of grief and outrage over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis…

Ex-White House Spokesman Says Joe Biden Shouldn’t Debate President Trump

Published

on

One of the major benefits of having all of this coronavirus hoopla going on in our nation is that the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, Joe Biden, has an excuse to avoid public appearances and making a bigger fool of himself than he already has over the last 12 months. Then again, maybe that’s why the left is fighting so hard to keep mass gatherings limited or completely banned? Perhaps, just maybe, Biden’s campaign doesn’t want the guy to be able to debate Trump publicly for fear of how much of a fool he’ll look like and out of fear that the stupid things he says will be impossible to bounce back from? If you think that sounds far-fetched, check out what a former press secretary for President Bill “let’s party hardy at Epstein Island” Clinton said about Biden debating the president. He said Biden should just not show up. Here’s more from The Daily Wire: Joe Lockhart penned an op-ed piece for CNN in which he advises the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate to ignore the three debates, which begin Sept. 29. “Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” Lockhart wrote last week. “Trump has made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.” Yeah. Or you could just admit that your candidate has clear mental health issues going on and you’re afraid he’s going to say something incoherent or outrageous that’s going to draw a lot of attention. Just tell the truth, folks. And…
