Kinzinger Says Cipollone Testimony Congruent with Previous Witnesses

The January 6th select committee had been ever-so-slightly gloating in recent days, as former Trump White House counsel Pat Cipollone agreed to testify in their investigation, albeit behind closed doors.

Cipollone was expected to speak to the veracity of recent claims made by Cassidy Hutchinson, a former top aide in the Trump White House whose explosive testimony just days ago has been the subject of several deep criticisms, particularly from members of the Secret Service.

Now one of the few Republicans on the committee is suggesting that Cipollone may have corroborated parts of Hutchinson’s story.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a member of the House select committee investigating last year’s Capitol riot, said Sunday that Trump White House counsel Pat Cipollone didn’t contradict previous testimony by other witnesses and will be featured in the investigation’s final report after he sat for a transcribed, videotaped interview with the panel last week.

“You’ll see over the next couple of hearings a little of what he said. Certainly you’ll see a lot of that in the report,” Kinzinger, R-Ill., told ABC “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos. “But at no point was there any contradiction of what anybody said.”

The story comes as the committee prepares for its final public hearings, in which the group could possibly make a case for a criminal referral of Donald Trump to the Justice Department – a move that would almost certainly spark intense protests around the country.
