Another week, another humiliating defeat for the Russian army in Ukraine.
At this point, the myth of a mighty and fearsome Russian military has all but vanished, as the Kremlin’s fighting force continues to falter and flail in their invasion of Ukraine.
The latest breakthrough for Kyiv comes during a carefully constructed counteroffensive has sent Russian troops fleeing the area, dropping their rifles and supplies as they run for their lives.
On Tuesday, news began to spread that some of Moscow’s minions had even retreated as far as the Russian border itself.
The Ukraine military’s stunning offensive gained momentum Monday, reclaiming several more northeastern villages and forcing the retreat of overwhelmed Russian troops from the region.
Even the Russian media was having a difficult time spinning the news.
A Russian-installed official in the Kharkiv region said Ukrainian forces outnumbered Russian troops by 8-to-1 and had broken through to the Russian border. Vitaly Ganchev told the state-owned Rossiya-24 television channel on Monday “the situation is becoming more difficult by the hour.”Advertisement - story continues below
Kyiv’s sudden surge comes after months of little movement, save for Russia’s small gains in the Donbas region. The encouraging counteroffensive has lifted Ukrainian morale and prompted criticism within Russia of President Vladimir Putin’s “special military operation.”
Back in Russia, the war is becoming increasingly unpopular among the citizens, and criticism of Putin is beginning to churn once again. It may only be a matter of time before push comes to shove, and the Russian President is forced to either crack down on dissidents or heed their warnings.
