Latest 'Ron Versus Don' Polling Shows Major Shift

On Tuesday, the nation will almost certainly see watch as Donald Trump announces his bid for the presidency in 2024.

The signs are all around us, with Trump not only hinting at his imminent declaration on a number of occasions, but also having recently refurbished his beloved “Trump Force One” airplane in order to more effectively traverse this great nation of ours.

But as we inch ever nearer to this inevitable announcement, there are rumblings within the Republican Party about a number of potential challengers to the former President-turned-presumptive nominee…including the increasingly popular Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

A new poll this week will surely have Donald Trump looking over his shoulder.

A new poll shows that more Republicans would prefer to see Ron DeSantis as their 2024 presidential nominee than Donald Trump following the party’s disappointing midterm election results.

42% of Republicans and Republican-leaners said they would prefer to see the Florida governor as the nominee, compared with 35% saying they would prefer the former president, according to a new YouGov America poll.

The poll, conducted in the three days following the elections, is a reversal from the results of a Yahoo News/YouGov poll last month, when 45% said they’d prefer Trump and 35% said they’d prefer DeSantis.

But there was still some hope for Trump.

While DeSantis beat out Trump overall, scoring higher among “not very strong Republicans” and those that “lean towards” the GOP, Trump still edged him out among “strong Republicans,” with 45% favoring him compared with 43% for DeSantis.

Trump and DeSantis have been involved in a rather heated feud of late, with the former President recently suggesting that he may have some “unflattering” information to share about DeSantis, should the Sunshine State lawmaker decide to make a run for the White House.
