Liberal Legal Scholar Slams Twitter Over Censoring Trump; Declares ‘Free Speech’ Ultimate ‘Loser’

Published

on

Jonathan Turley, a constitutional law scholar recently warned that Twitter’s choice to fact-check and hide certain tweets from President Trump threatens the concept of free speech in the Unites States.

Turley, a liberal, published a blog Friday that said, “Twitter is now making the case for government action to monitor and control social media. The ultimate loser will be free speech.”

Thursday night, President Trump reacted to some of the violence and looting happening in the city of Minneapolis over the death of George Floyd, calling those responsible for the chaos “thugs” and threatened to cut loose the military in the city to get control over the situation.

In a now hidden tweet, Trump said, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

Twitter then hid the tweet, requiring users to click an arrow in order for it to be seen, stating that it broke the rules by “glorifying violence.”

Here’s more from The Washington Examiner:

“I am still leery of the government intervening on social media,” Turley wrote. “Free speech has few advocates in this fight. It is primary a struggle between Twitter, Trump, and the Democrats over who controls such speech.”

Turley said he did not agree with the content of Trump’s tweets about the Minneapolis protesters but that they should not be censored.

“Twitter had the chance to admit error and return to neutrality in the interest of free speech. It is clearly more concerned with expressing its views than preserving its forum,” he said. “Frankly, I would not care about such self-inflicted wounds except that free speech will likely suffer the collateral damage from Twitter’s glorifying speech controls.”

Turley is right. Twitter has had plenty of opportunities over the last few years to change their strategies involving the engagement of content posted to their site. Instead, they chose to go along with the agenda pushed by progressives and go the route of censorship. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.

This wouldn’t even be an issue if social media platforms weren’t trying to desperately to become hubs of information sharing because more active users equals more advertising revenue. But since they want to be publishers, they need to behave like publishers, and that means not silencing someone’s voice or opinion just because it isn’t a liberal one.

Widow Of Man Mary Trump Said Was Paid To Take SAT For President Trump Denies Claim

Published

on

The widow of a former friend of President Trump’s has come out and denied a claim that her late husband was paid to take the SAT for him, a claim that comes from the pages of a new book by Mary Trump, the president’s niece. Pam Shriver, who is a former tennis superstar and current tennis analyst, responded to the claim by denying any knowledge of her late husband, Joe Shapiro, having ever took the standardized test for the president. Here’s more information via The Washington Examiner: “When you put somebody’s name in print in a book, you want to make sure the facts around it are correct, especially if they are not living because it’s not like Joe is here and he would have known how to deal with this,” Shriver said in a video posted to social media on Wednesday. She also said her late husband met Trump during their time at the University of Pennsylvania, which would have been years after the president had taken the SATs, because he originally went to Fordham University for two years before transferring. “My late husband Joe Shapiro passed away 21 years ago. He was a man of great integrity, honesty; he was a hard worker. He was literally the smartest person I ever met,” Shriver added. The book by Mary Trump, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man contains the following passage concerning the allegation: “To hedge his bets, he enlisted Joe Shapiro, a smart kid with a reputation for being a good test taker, to take his SATs for him. That was much easier to pull off in the days before photo IDs and computerized records. Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well.” There’s no actual proof this event…

Supreme Court Says Manhattan District Attorney Is Allowed To Obtain Trump Tax Returns

Published

on

A new ruling handed down from the Supreme Court states that President Trump’s accountants will have to release years of financial records and tax returns to the Manhattan district attorney, ruling that he doesn’t have immunity from a grand jury investigation in NYC. Cyrus R. Vance Jr., who also happens to be a Democrat, a fact which will surprise absolutely no one, will now be allowed to the see returns in question after the justices voted 7-2 in favor of the release of the tax returns being released. Here’s more from The Washington Examiner: Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s two appointees to the court, joined the majority. However, Trump prevailed in the second case as the justices said it would not allow Congress to obtain tax and financial records, kicking the issue back to the lower courts. Unlike other recent presidents, Trump has refused to publish his tax returns and other financial papers that would provide a snapshot of his wealth. Back in May, there was three hours of oral testimony held by teleconference in which lawyers went back and forth over whether or not the House of Representatives and a New York prosecutor could subpoena Trump’s banks and accounting firm for his financial documents. There are three House committees who are seeking to get a peek at records from Mazars, the accountants for the Trump Organization, and two banks that gave loans to several Trump businesses. Democratic leaders think that the documents in question will give insight into whether or not Trump borrowed cash from, or had dealings with, Russian companies before taking office. Yes, that’s right. The left is still harping on the Russia nonsense, digging and rooting through every bit of garbage they can find to uncover whether or not there’s some sort of connection between…
