The state of Louisiana has been rocked hard by the spread of the coronavirus, but according to new numbers revealed by Gov. John Bel Edwards, there’s signs of hope that things might be slowing down quite a bit, though he said he wouldn’t necessarily call it a trend yet.

Such news could give folks a breath of much needed fresh air as people around the country have struggled deeply with stress and anxiety that this disease has produced in a lot of people who are worried about getting the illness or loved ones who might be vulnerable to complications from the virus.

Here’s more from Washington Examiner:

The rate of new hospitalizations and ventilator usage, key measures in determining when the state’s health-care system could be overwhelmed, appears to be slowing, he said.

“We are hopeful that we’re seeing the beginning of the flattening of the curve,” he said Monday.

Edwards cautioned that mitigation efforts, which include staying home as much as possible and keeping your distance from others when you must go out, still need to continue. He said health-care workers are learning how to better manage COVID-19 patients, leading to shorter hospital stays.

One of the big breakthroughs that have helped to turn the tide a bit in the battle against coronavirus is the malaria drug known as hydroxychloroquine. Attorney General Jeff Landry made an announcement on Monday that Teva Pharmaceuticals are producing 8,000 packs of azithromycin and 75,000 tablets of hydroxychloroquine sulfate for the state of Louisiana, which is definitely good news for them and will aid drastically in their battle against this disease.

Along with the efforts of Teva Pharmaceuticals, Amneal Pharmaceuticals has donated an additional 400,000 tablets of the drug to Louisiana.

Here’s to hoping the numbers continue to drop all across the country.
