Mainstream Media Begins to Turn on Atlanta Over ‘Insensitive’ Team Name

And, with the World Series headed south for the next couple of games, there is going to be plenty of talk about “the chop” to boot.

As we march ever forward into the blathering mess of political correctness that stands before us, everything about the way that we communicate with each other is beginning to change.

Words and phrases are being thrown to the wayside faster than ever before, and large swaths of our history are now being shuttered away, far from the impressionable eyes of…someone.

The Washington Football Team now exists, taking the place of the problematically-named “Redskins”, in what was likely a long-overdue move.  Even the most staunch fans of that brand understand that there was trouble coming for their beloved team.

But, still lurking out in the sports world are the Atlanta Braves, who’ve long been able to quell concerns about their name through their employment of a tribal council, for lack of a better term, that steers the use of Native American imagery within the baseball club.

This may not be enough for the mainstream media, however.

USA Today was caught stealth-editing multiple pieces after its sports columnist decried the “racist” Atlanta Braves team name.

Bob Nightengale, USA Today’s MLB writer, penned a piece Wednesday titled “MLB, club won’t budge on Atlanta baseball team’s nickname, but here’s why I won’t use it” that began by listing the “blatantly racist” caricatures and the “offensive” mascot that were previously removed and how headdresses, face paint and the famous “tomahawk chop” chant at games became “strongly discouraged.”

“In recent years, I have tried to avoid using Atlanta’s nickname in columns,” Nightengale wrote. “I find it offensive, and after talking and listening to Native American leaders, friends and associates, it only fortifies my belief.”

“Copy editors have occasionally changed it in my copy because until now this has been my private stance. Several readers picked up on the name appearing in my articles during Atlanta’s World Series run, and after talking it over with my editors, I have decided to explain my stance here and make more of a concerted effort to keep the name out of my columns,” Nightengale added.

And there’s some history to be had as well:

Nightengale’s column from Saturday originally had the headline, “Sweet revenge: Atlanta Braves knock off Los Angeles Dodgers to advance to World Series,” according to The Wayback Machine. That was since changed to read, “Sweet revenge: Atlanta knocks off Los Angeles Dodgers to advance to World Series.”

Every reference to the “Braves” was removed from the piece.

The stealth-editing similarly occurred with an Oct. 18 piece, originally titled, “Mighty Dodgers are reeling, frustrated after two walk-off NLCS wins for the Braves,” now titled“Mighty Dodgers are reeling, frustrated after two walk-off NLCS wins for Atlanta.” All uses of the word “Braves” in the piece were also scrubbed.

Will the Braves be able to resist calls to change as they head back home for the continuation of the World Series, as “the chop” is set to feature prominently in the coming days?

Only time will tell.

January 6th Committee Begins Another Criminal Referral for Top Trump Aide

Seems a bit desperate, don’t you think?

Where once the Democrats worked overtime to prevent the world from discovering just how desperate they truly are, we now have a progressive posse that has no qualms about flamboyant flailing and unfettered fiasco.

This is most simply observed by keeping a keen eye on the select committee investigating the events of January 6th, who realize that their time is limited by the Democrats’ likely loss of control of Congress at the end of next year.  That development would almost undoubtedly see their committee dissolved, hence the reason for their desperate actions and frantic pace.

The latest sign of such a turn comes to us in the form of a criminal contempt charge for Mark Meadows.

Mark Meadows’s cooperation with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection appears to be over as quickly as it started.

Just one week after the committee announced it had reached an agreement with Donald Trump’s former chief of staff to produce records and appear for an initial deposition, Fox News reported Tuesday morning that Meadows and his attorney were planning to notify lawmakers on the House panel that they could not reach an understanding on how to work together.

“We have made efforts over many weeks to reach an accommodation with the committee,” Meadows’s attorney George Terwilliger told Fox News, explaining that Meadows had been willing to appear voluntarily to answer questions that he believed were not covered by executive privilege. However, Terwilliger said that over the weekend, the committee made clear it was also planning to look into material that Meadows considered privileged, pointing to a subpoena that had been issued to a third party for Meadows’s cellphone records.

The committee was unmoved by the argument, however.

“If indeed Mr. Meadows refuses to appear, the Select Committee will be left no choice but to advance contempt proceedings and recommend that the body in which Mr. Meadows once served refer him for criminal prosecution,” they said.

“Even as we litigate privilege issues, the Select Committee has numerous questions for Mr. Meadows about records he has turned over to the Committee with no claim of privilege, which include real-time communications with many individuals as the events of January 6th unfolded,” read the statement from Thompson and Cheney. “We also need to hear from him about voluminous official records stored in his personal phone and email accounts, which were required to be turned over to the National Archives in accordance with the Presidential Records Act.”

Meadows is the second Trump adviser to be targeted in such a way by the committee, with Steve Bannon’s contempt trial set to begin in July of 2022.
