Man's Bible Survives Devastating House Fire, But Wait Until You Hear How He Explains It

When God tells us that he preserves his word, even like gold or silver refined in fire, we certainly believe it. For Charles House of Tyler, Texas, such verses take on a very literal meaning.

While on the lookout for a decent home, House was living in a storage unit converted into a tiny house. According to Fox News, the fire that utterly destroyed this man’s home was caused by faulty wiring.

“I looked up and my whole bedroom was on fire,” House recalled in an interview with KLTV. “All I could do was just jump up and run out the house.”

While his tiny home filled with smoke, House said he nearly passed out trying to escape. “…It’s fortunate I got myself out of there. It’s a blessing; I can’t stop saying that because it’s a blessing. Thank God.”

One treasured possession, however, survived the blaze: House’s own Bible.

After the fire had been put out and House was allowed to enter his home and began sifting through the rubble, the bright red binding of his virtually unharmed Bible caught his eye.

“He said His word would not perish, and the Bible did not burn,” House declared. “It was scorched but it did not burn. That Man’s word is real.”

While House lost nearly everything and is now back to square one in saving up for a new home, his faith, the most important thing of all, was sharpened and strengthened by this trial.

“You can take it away, but you can never stop His word,” House said, boldly. “I’m a witness to that right now. Seeing that Bible, in the middle of that fire… it didn’t burn that Bible.”

House, who is disabled, set up a GoFundMe campaign for an extra leg-up toward recovering from the tragic fire and restoring his dream of buying a house. The campaign has raised more than half its goal in just three days as friends, family, and inspired strangers rally around House.

“I felt lead to help, wrote one donor. “Do unto others as you would have them do to you. The same thing happened to a friend of mine in Kentucky the house was a total loss the only thing that survived was her Bible unscathed.”

What an incredible encouragement that even when we lose every single one of our earthly possessions, our faith and God and his word still endures.
