Musk Reveals 'Amnesty' Plan for Some Suspended Twitter Users

With Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter quickly turning into an absolutely messy fiasco, the eccentric billionaire seems to be throwing just about everything at the figurative wall in hopes that something might just stick.

Musk has suggested that Twitter’s finances are not all that healthy, even declaring at one point that bankruptcy may very well be an option in the not-so-distant future.  In an effort to stave off such a dramatic failure, he’s terminated a vast amount of the company’s staff, while also testing out a rather confusing and ultimately ineffective pay-to-play “verification” scheme.

Now, in yet another wild move, Musk has suggested that some previously banned accounts may soon be provided “amnesty”.

Elon Musk said Thursday that Twitter will grant amnesty for suspended accounts beginning next week after holding a vote.

In a poll shared on Wednesday, Musk asked users whether Twitter should offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, “provided they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.”

The vote wasn’t even close.

An overwhelming 72.4% of Twitter users voted in the affirmative with more than 3 million respondents.

“The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week,” Musk tweeted, adding: “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” a Latin phrase meaning the “voice of the people is the voice of God.”

Musk has already reinstated the account of former President Donald Trump after a similar online vote, but Trump has insisted that he’ll remain loyal to his own Truth Social platform.
