Funny how when the Trump White House bars a reporter from an event after she refused to leave the Oval Office and was loud, rude, and relenting in her questions, the media melted down for a week. But when Democrat mayor Bill DeBlasio has a reporter removed from his sight for asking a question he didn’t feel like answering, there’s hardly a peep.
The media is exactly like the left-wing pundits they constantly promote and make excuses for. They’re convinced that they’re the victims of an evil administration who calls them out for their propagandic lies.
What they refuse to acknowledge is that the American people are the ones who lost their trust in them long ago, and Trump has just tapped into that.
They act like Trump is going after journalists in the fashion of a fascist dictator (perhaps because they’re determined to paint literally everything he does as reminiscent of fascist dictators, despite him systematically scaling back the power and expanse of the federal government).
In reality, no President in recent memory has ever been slammed so much by the press, and yet all he does is laugh at them. Where are the journalists in jail, the networks shut down, the laws hindering free speech? What kind of authoritarian just lets the press bash him without responding like this?
Naturally, when it comes to Democrat politicians, there’s a massive double-standard. They have their fair share of run-ins with the press, but the mainstream outlets barely care about that, now don’t they? Obama was literally jailing reporter’s sources and they hardly batted an eye. So much for standing by your colleagues.
The Hill reports:
Kevin Sheehan, a reporter for the New York Post, reportedly approached [New York mayor Bill] de Blasio on Sunday at the Dominican Day Parade in Manhattan and asked for his reaction to a story in the Post about his meetings with lobbyists, according to the Post.
Members of NYPD security then approached the reporter and took him away from the mayor, the Post reported. The reporter was reportedly escorted a half-block away from where he approached de Blasio.
The Post reported over the weekend that de Blasio’s deputy mayors, commissioners and aides had 136 meetings with lobbyists over a three-month period this spring. Lobbyists from the real estate industry “dominated the talks,” the Post reported.
If the purpose of a free press is to hold politicians accountable–which it is–that means holding Trump and de Blasio accountable.
If you have a double-standard when it comes to freedom of the press, than you don’t really care about preserving the First Amendment. You care about preserving your preferred, ideological agenda. And that means you, along with politicians, need to be held accountable as well.
