With a wild flow of speculation continuing to inundate the talk of the 2024 election, every bit of political minutiae that exists in this infernal game will soon find its footing in popular culture.
Such is certainly the case this week, after an unexpected FEC filing appeared to suggest that former Vice President Mike Pence would soon be entering the race. Well, that was until one of his people put the kibosh on the whole thing as a hoax.
A filing with the FEC that was processed on Monday indicated that Pence had thrown his hat in the ring for the 2024 presidential nomination, according to the agency’s website. However, a spokesperson for the former vice president quickly shot down the speculation, confirming in a short statement on Twitter that Pence “did not file to run for President today.”Advertisement - story continues below
It’s not clear who filed the paperwork on Pence’s behalf, with the former vice president’s spokesperson suggesting it may have been a prank, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman. The Washington Examiner has reached out to Devin O’Malley for further comment but has not yet received a response.
Pence, who served under former President and presumptive 2024 GOP nominee Donald Trump, has openly suggested that he and his family are exploring the idea of a run for the White House, but that they’ll make that decision when the time is right…if ever.
The strange incident comes as many within the Republican Party are expressing their doubts about the viability of another electoral victory for Donald Trump.
