Pence Takes Cheap Shot at Trump Over 'Constitution' Remark

With the potential Republican primary field for 2024 beginning to take a sort of shadowy shape on the fringe corners of the political fracas, a number of familiar names are filling the air.

Donald Trump, of course, is the current presumptive nominee, being the only person to actually announce their candidacy as well as holding the clout of a former President.

But there are some rather sizeable names off in the murky ether, including Trumps former Vice President Mike Pence, who this week took an ugly shot at Trump over the former Commander in Chief’s recent comments about the Constitution.

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Monday pushed back on former President Trump’s assertion that the Constitution should be disregarded to allow for him to return to the White House in the wake of new revelations about Twitter’s handling of a controversial story about Hunter Biden.

“I must tell you that I think that everyone that serves in public office, everyone that aspires to serve or serve again should make it clear that we will support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Pence said on WVOC radio in Columbia, S.C., ahead of a visit to the state on Tuesday.

There were several members of the GOP who spoke out about Trump’s comments.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who defeated a Trump-backed challenger in November, said suggesting the termination of the Constitution “is not only a betrayal of our Oath of Office, it’s an affront to our Republic.”

“Well, obviously I don’t support that,” Rep.-elect Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

Trump had suggested on social media that Twitter’s willful influence over the 2020 election did not conform to the vision of the founding fathers, therefore requiring unprecedented action in order to make right what he has long felt was a “rigged” contest.
