Poll: America's Trust in the Media Lower than Any Other Country

A new poll reported by left-wing news agency Poynter finds that Americans distrust the media more than the citizens of every other country.

“Just 29% of people surveyed in the U.S. said they trust the news, compared to 45% in Canada and 54% in Brazil,” Poynter said in its June 24 report on its poll.

The poll surveyed 92,000 people in 47 countries and found that American’s have the worst relationship with their national media establishment.

Indeed, the annual poll discovered that the results in every one of the other 46 nations improved a bit over the last poll. Only the U.S. showed no improvement in how people viewed the media.

Local news, both print and broadcast, fared better than national news. However, the findings for struggling local print outlets were not all good.

Interest in local news and willingness to pay for it was not strong. Only 21% in the U.S. said that they pay for news online. Of those who do, 31% said they pay for The New York Times, 24% for The Washington Post and only 23% for the site of a local or regional paper.

The most popular local news topic, by a wide margin (62%), was weather. Staples of local newspaper coverage like politics (33%) and education (16%) lagged. Those surveyed indicated a preference for local broadcast (52%) as a source over newspapers (16%).

“Many Americans do not feel that news organizations are covering people like them fairly, and those who say the news media are treating them less fairly are less likely to trust the news. This includes, for example, younger people (young women, in particular), Black Americans and Hispanic Americans,” said Rasmus Kleis Nielsen, director of the Reuters Institute.

Remember, the groups reporting this distrust in the media are both left-wing outlets; Reuters and Poynter. So, you can guess that the real results are even worse for the media.

Regardless, even if we take the polling from these liberals at face value, it is horrible news for the establishment media. And no one deserves it more.
