POTUS and Pelosi’s Squabble Over State of The Union Takes Another Turn

The latest maneuver in the State of The Union saga sounds like something straight out of the 5th grade bully’s playbook.

State of the Union

It seems as though every day for the last week, there has been a new twist to the tale in the saga surrounding the President’s presumably forthcoming State of The Union Address.

On Wednesday, we reported that it had seem a compromise had been reached in which President Trump would, in fact, be giving his annual address to the nation.  Now, less than a day later, and entirely new scenario is on the table.

Under the rules, declaring a formal joint session of Congress requires the agreement of both the House and Senate. Without Pelosi’s consent, in other words, there can’t be a joint session.

At the same time, however, as described by McClatchy, no rules would prevent Trump from entering the House chamber, or speaking on the House floor, whenever he wants. So he’s perfectly within his powers to show up and deliver his speech.

That said, Pelosi, D-Calif., has other tools at her disposal to thwart Trump. She could shut off the lights, turn off the microphones, and also make sure that no cameras are allowed because the House won’t be in session.

That sounds like an awfully dirty trick, but it’s disappointingly not unprecedented.

In 2008, during her first term as speaker, Pelosi adjourned without allowing a vote Republicans wanted related to offshore drilling, shut off the lights, and cut off the microphones to block Republicans from complaining about it. Republicans refused to leave the floor and kept on talking anyway.

In 2016, Pelosi was on the opposite side of this sort of situation, when she joined Democrats in staging a sit-in after the Republican majority blocked gun control votes. Democrats remained on the floor in the dark after the House was put in recess and used social media to broadcast video from the protest.

Given the tumultuous relationship shared by President Trump and House Speaker Pelosi, seeing a repeat of the 2008 or 2016 stunt certainly isn’t out of the question.

Pelosi Hands Trump A Win, Announces Plan To Pass NAFTA Replacement

Published

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took a few minutes away from the impeachment fever gripping the House of Representatives to announce that a breakthrough was made on Tuesday concerning negotiations for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade. The House will vote on a trade deal put together by President Trump that he has been lobbying for Congress to pass for quite some time now. Here’s more from Washington Examiner: “It is infinitely better than what was originally proposed by the administration,” said Pelosi, a California Democrat. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat, said Democrats are entering the “final stages of text sharing” with other lawmakers “before there is any expedited period of bringing it to the floor.” Neal did not indicate specifically when the House would vote on the deal. The House is set to adjourn for the year on Dec. 20 and lawmakers typically want ample time to review trade deals. Democrats said the accord came after provisions were added addressing labor law enforcement, environmental standards, and prescription drugs, satisfying their members. Neal, the lead Congressional negotiator, stated, “This is a transformative agreement. Our constant emphasis was on enforceability, enforceability, and enforceability, we fixed that.” Democrats went on to say they won the removal of several provisions that would have led to an increase in drug prices. This trade deal is set to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement that was passed back in 1993. This is a major win for the president who has said for years the old agreement was a bad deal for the United States. The new version of the agreement says that 75 percent of a car’s parts must be manufactured in North America to be duty-free, up from the previous 62.5 percent. The deal also says that 40 to…

Woman Protesting With Antifa Rushes Police, Gets Shoved To The Ground

Published

on

Antifa has a well earned reputation for being an aggressive, radical leftist group that likes to get violent during their demonstrations. Numerous stories have come out over the last several years featuring members of Antifa punching and assaulting conservatives at rallies and other egregious acts. Recently, the group held a demonstration in Seattle where the group dressed in black hoodies, wore masks, and then started taunting police officers. Conservative journalist Andy Ngo, himself a victim of violent, radical protesters, covered the insanity. The police were protecting a group of pro-America demonstrators when some of the militants in attendance took it upon themselves to burn a thin blue line American flag while gathered at the base of the statue of John Harte McGraw, Washington’s second governor. A police officer sprayed the flag and put the fire out. One of the militants present shouted at the cop, “What the f*** is wrong with you?” Yet another yelled, “Suck a d**k, you fat motherf***ers!” Here’s more from TheBlaze: Undeterred, the Antifa faithful grabbed the partially burned flag and lit it on fire again — which made them all very happy, including one woman protesting with Antifa, who stood out due to her lack of a mask and the pink accents with her clothing. At another point amid Antifa’s antics, that same woman decked out in pink tried rushing the cops’ bike line. Video shows her running at the officers and getting shoved backward. Now, most folks at this point would acquire some mental clarity and conclude that messing with cops in this way is a bad idea. But this is Antifa we’re talking about, and given that they tend to get away with a quite a bit, the woman naturally ran at the police line again. Her second attempt to rush cops, however,…
