President Trump issued an order on Wednesday morning for the Navy to destroy any Iranian military boats or vessels that harass U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf in response to provocative maneuvers conducted by the anti-American Middle Eastern nation.

The president tweeted, “I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.”

Check out more details from The Washington Examiner:

U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said last week that 11 small vessels belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy conducted “dangerous and harassing approaches” toward U.S. ships.

The U.S. ships were conducting operations with Army Apache helicopters in the northern Persian Gulf, the statement said.

The Iranian vessels reportedly crossed the bows and sterns of U.S. vessels at extremely close range and at dangerously high speeds repeatedly. The ships issued warnings to the Iranian vessels, but got no response in return.

Iran just has no respect for anyone or anything. Here we have helped their people out during the coronavirus crisis and offered to be of assistance in any way possible, and how are we repaid?

It’s more than disrespectful. It’s an act meant to provoke a violent reaction. They are poking the bear as the old saying goes.

The last thing we need right now is a military conflict. Here’s to hoping Iran gets their junk together and stops doing this sort of thing.
