Progressives See a Prelude as Michelle Obama Returns to Politics

Is this going to be their Plan B in 2024?

President Joe Biden is floundering; there is no more succinct way to say it.  To characterize his first year in office as “disappointing” is generous, as even the most ardent Democrats among us see his early presidency as disastrous.

Yet still, Biden and his team continue to declare that they will seek reelection in 2024, and they do so emphatically.   It’s almost reflexive, in all honesty, and could very well be little more than an attempt to shore up confidence in the party through 2022’s all-important midterms.

But there are rumblings out there in the progressive wings of the party, and a familiar face appears to be familiarizing herself with the current terrain of The Beltway – perhaps as a prelude to something forthcoming.

Former first lady Michelle Obama has a message for Americans ahead of the 2022 midterm elections: “We’ve got to vote like the future of our democracy depends on it.”

In a letter titled “Fight For Our Vote,” which was published Sunday as an ad in the New York Times, Obama and her voting rights organization When We All Vote called on Americans to continue engaging in democracy amid a historic attack on voting rights.

The letter — which comes as Congress has yet to move on voting rights legislation at the federal level — was signed by 30 other civic engagement, voting rights and voter mobilization organizations including the NAACP, Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight Action, Voto Latino Foundation, NextGen America, LeBron James’ More Than A Vote and Rock the Vote.

The letter comes as Democratic polling has shown a consistent decline in confidence in Joe Biden, and as many within the party appear to be very seriously considering pushing him out of the 2024 nomination.

LONG WAY FROM ROCK BOTTOM: Biden’s Approval Rating Tanks Again

“I literally have no idea what he’s doing.”

One year into the Biden presidency, and it certainly doesn’t appear as though the 46th President of these United States has any plan to right the ship.

Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris, have been characterized as being asleep at the wheel of the nation, with the Commander in Chief himself appearing to be truly reluctant to govern at all.  (The Democrats did have to coax him into running in the first place, so perhaps we should not be surprised).

This unwillingness to make change has Americans brutally punishing the President in the polls.

President Biden faced criticism from over soaring gas prices, inflation and his policies as his approval rating sank to 33% in a recent poll.

“I give him a minus 10,” Stuart, of Tucson, said when asked to grade Biden on a scale of 1-10.

“If you like inflation, you like illegal criminals coming across the border, if you like where he killed the gasoline,” he continued.

Arland, of San Francisco, gave Biden a seven and said, “I think he’s got his heart in the right place, but his policies don’t have that much effect.”

And then, succinctly:

Sanjoy, from Arizona, also gave the president a seven, but said, “I literally have no idea what he’s doing.”

Other polling has also suggested that the Democratic Party is seeking to replace Biden on the 2024 ticket, despite the President’s assurances that he plans to run again.
