President Trump’s National Emergency declaration has been a hot topic on Capitol Hill over the course of the last few weeks, with the democrats flailing and thrashing against in immovable wall…pun fully intended.
While the Senate democrats are likely to block the declaration legislatively, this means little under the current math. The President will simply veto the anti-declaration bill, send it back into the Chamber, and it will, an all likelihood, die there. Mitch McConnell, who in recent weeks has been a bit of a shrinking violet on the national stage, even touted this mathematical near-certainty just hours ago.
But now, Rand Paul has a few new numbers for the President…some of which could be extremely worrisome.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) predicted Monday that ten Republican senators will vote for a Democrat resolution to end President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration to build the wall.
Sen. Paul told reporters that he believes that ten Republicans senators will vote to end Trump’s national emergency declaration. Paul announced Saturday that he will vote for the Democrat resolution.Trending:
“I can’t vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasn’t been appropriated by Congress. We may want more money for border security, but Congress didn’t authorize it,” Paul said. “If we take away those checks and balances, it’s a dangerous thing.”
It was originally believed that only four republican Senators would be figuratively crossing the aisle, not ten.
At this rate, the President’s hopes of using the National Emergency declaration to construct a wall at our southern border still looks to be a coming reality, but the idea that republicans are peeling away from the President on this subject will likely be worrisome when it comes to fighting for the wall post-veto.
