REPORT: Gov’t Shutdown Cost Seven Times More Than Trump Wanted for the Wall

All because of the Democrat shutdown…

The partial government shutdown is over…for now.

President Trump agreed to reopen the government until February 15, in large part so federal workers could receive their back pay.

The shutdown, of course, occurred because Democrats did not want to give Trump $5.7 billion for a border wall.

However, a new study suggests the 35-day shutdown actually cost seven times more than the amount of money requested for the wall by the Trump administration.

A new report by a statistics professor at Washington University in St. Louis estimates that the 35-day partial government shutdown cost seven times more than the $5.7 billion that President Donald Trump requested for a border wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Liberty Vittert, who is also an ambassador for the Royal Statistical Society, writes that estimates for the cost of the shutdown per day range from $52 million to $360 million.

More, per Fox News:

Standard & Poor’s has estimated that this shutdown will cost the American economy $6.5 billion per week – a figure they based on data from previous shutdowns. This estimate includes the reduction in spending by furloughed federal workers (though not their actual pay), as well as other trickle-down effects: lost business and revenue to private contractors, fewer vacations and school trips due to park closures, etc. That puts us at about $32 billion just for basic economic disruption.

[…]

Altogether, I estimate that the 35-day shutdown cost the American public somewhere around $40 billion. And that economic damage doesn’t include the unquantifiable damage being done to the 800,000 people who are going without a paycheck.

President Trump wants it known.

He did not cave to Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats.

By agreeing to reopen the government, he has not ended his campaign to build a wall on America’s southern border.

WATCH:

Trump noted, “I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession. It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!”

Here’s the tweet:

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders elaborated, noting that the wall is coming in 21 days “with or without the Democrats.”

In 21 days President @realDonaldTrump is moving forward building the wall with or without the Democrats. The only outstanding question is whether the Democrats want something or nothing

California Congresswoman Maxine Waters is loaded.

And yet, during a time when government workers are seeing their paychecks withheld due to the Democrat shutdown, Waters has no problem flying first class.

Talk about out of touch!

LOOK:

According to Waters in a not-so-subtle threat, it’s time to “get rid” of “despicable” President Trump.

We must understand that the Fed does not work for the president of the United States. The Fed creates monetary policy based on what’s good for the economy and, of course, I may disagree from time to time with their decisions but we must not interfere. They must be independent. Right now Powell is saying that they’re dealing with inflation, but they don’t work for the president. The president can’t fire them. All that the president can do when he opens his mouth is rattle the markets. As a matter of fact, the volatility that you see in the markets is caused by the kinds of statements that this president will make causing more uncertainty.

I’m not surprised that the president is doing this because I’m not surprised at anything that the president may do or say. I have warned America from the beginning that this president is not worthy, he cannot be trusted, he’s a liar, He’s despicable. Any time he steps in, opens his mouth, tries to interfere with one of our agencies I’m not shocked but the American people continue to be shocked. The Republicans are intimidated and not standing by their responsibility for oversight and dealing with this president. So, yes, no, Powell does not work for him. The attorney general should not work for him, but he thinks that they all should be working for him and not for the American people. We need to get rid of this president.

Self-described Democrat Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) has made some statements of late that caused a group to put billboards up in New York City slamming the freshman lawmaker. AOC was not pleased. For example, here’s the first one… From Daily Wire: Job Creators Network, a nonpartisan organization founded by entrepreneurs like Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, purchased a billboard in New York City slamming socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for killing tens of thousands of jobs for New Yorkers that would have generated billions of dollars in economic activity. https://twitter.com/IngrahamAngle/status/1098244684571381761?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1098244684571381761&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2F43738%2Fthanks-nothing-aoc-massive-billboard-nyc-blasts-ryan-saavedra AOC saw the first billboard. She figured she had to respond. She sent a tweet calling the sign “wack”: https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1098456697214062592?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1098456697214062592&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2F43812%2Focasio-cortez-tries-defend-herself-wack-billboard-ryan-saavedra The people behind the billboard then saw AOC’s response. The American people are the boss.” LOOK: https://twitter.com/ReutersPolitics/status/1103096531496943617?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1103096531496943617&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bizpacreview.com%2F2019%2F03%2F06%2Ftimes-square-billboard-messages-for-aoc-get-better-and-better-new-one-shows-her-whos-really-the-boss-730486 About that “boss” comment… AOC: “I’m at least trying and they’re not. If you’re trying, you’ve got all the power, you’re driving the agenda, you’re doing all this stuff.” “Like, I just introduced Green New Deal two weeks ago and it’s creating all of this conversation. Why? Because no one else is even trying — because no one else has even tried!” “I’m like you try! You do it! Cuz you’re not!” “So until you do it, I’M THE BOSS! How…

US Embassy in Iraq Nearly Leveled by Rocket as Iran Tensions Soar

Mike Pompeo’s recent warning to US staff in the region is looking more prophetic by the minute.

Last week’s warning to US workers in Iraq could not have come a moment too soon, apparently. Due to increasingly hostile actions by the government of Iran, US officials last week demanded that non-essential American personnel leave the country of Iraq for feat that the regime in Tehran would soon launch a series of attacks.  As it turns out, this was far more prophetic than anyone could have imagined because, just days later, a rocket has nearly leveled the US Embassy in Baghdad. A rocket was fired into the Iraqi capital Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and diplomatic missions, on Sunday night, falling near the U.S. Embassy but causing no casualties, the Iraqi military said. The attack came two weeks after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Iraqi leaders during a surprise visit to Baghdad that if they failed to keep in check Iran-backed militias, which are expanding their power in Iraq and now form part of its security apparatus, the United States would respond with force. His visit came after U.S. intelligence showed Iran-backed Shi’ite militias positioning rockets near bases housing U.S. forces, according to two Iraqi security sources. There have been no claims of responsibility as of yet for the attack. Saudi Arabian officials have linked two recent attacks on their oil industry to Iran; one aerial drone attack on an oil pipeline, and a sophisticated underwater attack using makeshift torpedoes that damaged four ships. US President Donald Trump is hoping to stay out of conflict with Iran, but has warned that any action taken by the US will be swift and stern.
