Russia Makes Unhinged Claim About Bucha Massacre

Throughout the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the world has been subjected to scene after horrid scene, as the Kremlin’s fighting force continually shattered the rules of engagement in order to smother the sovereign nation and its people with terror.

And while the events that have led us into the 6th week of this nightmare have been abhorrent enough, the last several days have brought to light the massacre in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, in which retreating Russian butchers executed men, women, and children by the hundreds, many bounds at the hands, while also raping, killing, and then immolating the bodies of their victims.

The scene was enough to prompt US President Joe Biden to get serious about “an actual war crimes trial”.

But, almost unbelievably, we already know what Vladimir Putin’s defense of such a charge might be:  It was all fake news.

On Monday, Russian officials denied civilians were killed in Bucha. The Russian defense ministry claimed the gruesome scenes in Bucha were faked by Ukrainian forces as a “provocation.” It has become a common refrain from Moscow, issued after previous alleged atrocities came to light in this war, and during Russia’s long involvement in Syria’s brutal civil war.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed the reports of what he called a “fake attack” in Bucha and said Russia was demanding “an urgent meeting of the Security Council on this particular issue because we see such provocations as a direct threat to international peace and security.”

Putin’s fatalist approach to the invasion of Ukraine has been alarming, to say the least, and the Kremlin’s flippant response to the rape, torture, and murder of 400+ Ukrainians is an unholy abomination on modern civilization.
