Actress Scarlett Johansson, most known for playing Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is coming under heavy fire for deciding to take on the role of a transgender person in a new film she’s working on.
The fake outrage machine is once again churning and churning, looking for something new to be ticked off about. First they complained trans people didn’t get enough “representation” with characters in film and television. Hollywood responds to the nagging, still gets raked over the coals. There’s no satisfying the crusaders.
Members of the LGBTQ community and their allies saw the casting as insensitive because they preferred that a transgender role be played by a transgender actor. Many noted that Johansson, who is white, had been criticized for portraying an Asian character in “Ghost in the Shell.”Advertisement - story continues below
Movie reviewer Valerie Complex responded, “First the Japanese, and now Scarlett Johansson is taking on the trans community with her new film Rub and Tug. I can’t wait until her Rosa Parks film comes out.”
Comedian Faith Choyce said, “Scarlett Johansson is playing a trans man in her next movie because her ultimate career goal is to take an acting job from a member of each and every marginalized group.”Trending:
Screenwriter Steven Canals responded, “We have to stop hiring non-trans actors to play trans characters. In my opinion, it’s equally as traumatic & offensive as black-face. It also shows how lazy, unwoke, and complicit in transphobia you are.”
Johansson’s response was one of defiance, which showed she really didn’t care what her critics had to say about her taking the role.
“Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment,” she said.
As you might imagine, that further angered folks on the left, but at the end of the day, film studios want to make money and in order to make money they need actors and actresses that people actually recognize and want to see on screen. If a transgender actor was a big box office draw, they’d hire one.
Besides, do folks really think this film is going to be successful? Contrary to what leftists think, the LGBTQ community makes up a very tiny portion of the population, meaning the vast majority of film goers still adhere to traditional values and thus, don’t want to see this sick and twisted garbage on screen.
Maybe one day liberals will get that.
