Serena Williams Slams Pro Tennis for ‘Punishing’ Her for Taking Maternity Leave

On the day of International Women’s Day, Williams also accused pro tennis of being sexist.

Tennis star Serena Williams is claiming that professional tennis “punished” her because she dared to take maternity leave from the sport.

In a new op-ed, Williams slammed the “biased” tennis ranking system by which she took a hit after giving birth to her baby and taking an eight-month break from the game.

“When I returned to tennis from maternity leave, I was penalized for taking time off: my ranking dropped from #1 in the world to #453,” she wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Fortune.

Williams insisted that the ranking system even led to her injury earlier this year.

She added that the raking system “required me to face tougher competition earlier in the French Open, which led to a pectoral injury that forced me to drop out.”

“I fought hard personally, making it to the Wimbledon final shortly after,” Williams continued, “but I also fought hard publicly against the biased ranking system. We must stop penalizing women when they return to their careers after having children.”

On the day of International Women’s Day, Williams also accused pro tennis of being sexist.

“Women deserve to be given the same respect and opportunities as our male counterparts. We are entitled to the same open doors,” she wrote.

Williams has since regained her status among the top ten female players in the world.

The World Tennis Association did recently change its rules to address the very problem Williams cited in her op-ed. The WTA has ruled that women may retain their pre-maternity ranking to enter 12 tournaments over three years before the normal ranking system applies.

As COVID-19 continues to wane here in the United States, a debate is heating up regarding vaccines for the illness, and whether or not it is appropriate for Americans to be forced into receiving one.

This argument has permeated all echelons of life here in America, from public schools attempting to require shots to be educated, all the way up to the NBA, where one of the league’s most talented players is now facing banishment from his team on account of his personal medical choices.

The Brooklyn Nets won’t allow Kyrie Irving to participate in any team activities until he gets the COVID-19 vaccine, the team announced Tuesday morning.

Nets general manager Sean Marks released a statement confirming Irving’s status with the team amid controversy that the Nets’ star player is reportedly unwilling to get the vaccine.

“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” the statement read.

And then…

“Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently, the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.”

The news comes amid a national outcry against vaccine mandates, and could become a crucial litmus test in the court of public opinion regarding the discriminatory practices being leveled against the unvaccinated.

NBA star LeBron James has spent years disparaging police and now, the CDC has announced that the U.S. has suffered the highest murder rate increase in 100 years of record keeping.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. homicide rate has risen 30 percent between 2019 and 2020, the biggest spike recorded in 100 years.

But in the face of this dire situation, and despite that only a tiny percentage of Americans have been killed by police, pro athletes such as James have been on an anti-cop tirade for years.

James has repeatedly attacked police with blanket statements, support for anti-cop personalities and causes, and often uninformed criticism over individual situations.

To name just a few incidents James perpetrated over the last few years, In August of last year James donned a fake MAGA cap that read “Make America Arrest Cops Who Killed Breonna.”

That same month, James jumped to social media to support Utah Jazz player Donovan Mitchell who tweeted about a police-involved shooting that occurred in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Without any facts about the incident, James went on the attack to tweet, “And y’all wonder why we say what we say about the Police!”

The following month, James refused to offer any comment about two police officers where were murdered as they sat in their police cruiser in Los Angeles. James was urged to match the reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer. However, James replied that he had “zero comment” on the situation and had no interest in coming to the support of the police.

In Jan. of this year, James attacked the United States saying that we live in “2 Amerikkkas,” one for white people, and one where blacks are “chained, beaten, hung, shot to death cause of the color of [their] skin.”

In April, James was at it again when he tweeted a photo of a Columbus police officer and added a caption reading “You’re Next.” James took so much criticism for the tweet that he deleted it.

Only weeks later, James took criticism from an LAPD officer who slammed the NBA star’s “irresponsible and disturbing” attacks on police. The officer, Joseph Dion, also blasted James’ demagoguery against the police.
