As the global community continues to cleave itself down ideological lines, we see authoritarian nations continuing to push the envelope of international decorum.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is certainly the most significant and simple example of this, but we’ve also witnessed China’s continued harassment of Taiwan, North Korea’s never-ending missile tests, and now one of the scariest proclamations from Iran that the world has ever seen.

Tehran is technically capable of making a nuclear bomb but has yet to decide whether to build it, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei told Al Jazeera’s Arabic service on Sunday.

Tehran will also directly respond against Israel should its security be targeted, the report says citing the advisor.

Israel and her western allies have repeatedly suggested that Iran cannot be allowed to produce any sort of nuclear arsenal, and this latest claim will almost certainly prompt a swift response from Jerusalem and Washington DC both.
