More Text Messages Missing from J6, This Time from DHS
Just days ago, the January 6th select committee and the DOJ began to stir up a controversy surrounding allegedly “missing” text messages from within the Secret Service, from the days surrounding the attempted insurrection of January 6th, 2021.
The agency has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the messages were lost in a conversion of devices or software, but this didn’t prevent the committee from characterizing the incident as nefarious and allowing the left side of the social media spectrum to run with it.
Now, as the committee continues what the GOP has dubbed a “fishing expedition”, there are concerns about other “missing” text messages.
Text messages for President Donald Trump’s acting homeland security secretary Chad Wolf and acting deputy secretary Ken Cuccinelli are missing for a key period leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to four people briefed on the matter and internal emails.
This discovery of missing records for the senior-most Homeland Security officials, which has not been previously reported, increases the volume of potential evidence that has vanished regarding the time around the Capitol attack.
Bennie Thompson, chair of the J6 Committee, has already raised the alarm regarding the text messages, even going so far as to threaten legal action regarding their disappearance.
The committee is set to resume their dramatized public hearings in a matter of weeks.
