The Joe Biden Popularity Poll

From the first day President Biden took office, they have been taking polls tracking his approval rating with voters. When he took office, his rating stood at 61% approval. In the campaign, he told us that he would be more inclusive. He made some promises to the American people about what he would do to “Build Back Better.”

I want those people who voted for Biden to participate, and I want you to help me build a new poll, and then I want you to score it for all of us to see. Every poll has a series of questions, some as little as one while others could have ten or more. Here we go. I want you to think back to the campaign up through the election and write down the top ten things that Joe Biden said he would do if elected President. 

If you are having difficulty, the Washington Post did a story on promises made and kept in the President’s first 100 days. It will most likely take you a while to try and remember at least 10 promises he made. You can go to google to help refresh your memory.

  • Repeal Trump Tax Cuts
  • Change taxes on overseas profits
  • Reverse Trump Environmental Rollbacks
  • Bring troops home from Afghanistan
  • Rejoin the Iran nuclear deal
  • Raise the refugee cap
  • Enact the Equality Act
  • Pass the Voting Rights Act
  • Send legislation on gun control
  • Create a national commission on police restructuring

This is a list of 10 items he was going to do but has not completed. You can create your own list. Remember that your list has to be made of things he said he was going to do, and those items were a significant part of your decision to vote for Biden. After you think you are done, set it down for a day or two and then return to your list and recheck it.

After your final review, put a checkmark on your list next to everything Joe promised and completed. In the Rasmussen Reports, September 30 poll, 42% approved what the President has accomplished, 56% disapproved. In this poll, 2 to 1 said they strongly disapprove vs. strongly approve (47% SD vs. 24% SA). 

Now let’s look at your poll. To join the poll of people who supported the President, you need to have at least 4 checkmarks on your ballot, to equal 40%. You may have 4 or more, but many of you will not have 4 or more. With 24% who strongly disapprove, they would only have to have less than three things done that you were expecting to agree with the major polls. 

Here are some things from other polling data reflecting American’s feelings. 

  • 51% oppose the release of Haitians into the United States
  • 53% oppose the $3.2 trillion spending bill
  • 47% oppose paying money to resettle Afghanistan refugees
  • 69% of Americans are saying they are paying more for gas under Biden
  • 79% blame Biden policies for the spike in virus
  • 86% blame Biden for the increase in inflation.

Of all the things Biden said he would do so far, the only bill he has signed in his term as President is the government extension avoiding a shutdown. He has relied on executive orders to try and bypass Congress to enact his agenda into law, and many of those executive orders are under attack in the courts. 

So how did you score? Look at the ten things you were expecting Biden to accomplish from what he promised during the campaign. Count how many out of the 10 got a positive checkmark. The next time you hear that President Biden got an approval rating of 40% or higher, compare the poll to your score. 

If the infrastructure and the budget bills fail, look for Biden’s approval numbers to fall to the mid 30% level as liberal Democrats abandon him. Nixon’s lowest polling number just as he resigned was 25%. The Des Moines Register showed Biden at 29% on the handling of the southern border. I don’t know if he will fall lower in more categories’ or not, but the longer he stays in the low forties, the harder it will be to turn it around without abandoning many of the things he says he stood for. Clinton came back from the intern scandal and won reelection but things are different today. Remember that, in an effort at inclusion, mothers are now called “birthing people.” Mothers may feel different about Biden.

Southwest Caves to Pressure from Anti-Vaccine Employees

But there’s one heck of a catch.

Last weekend was an unfortunate one for Southwest Airlines, who suffered from the cancelation of nearly a third of their flight schedule…and just days after they announced that a vaccine mandate would soon go into effect for their thousands of employees.

The airlines denied that the vaccine mandate had anything to do with the cancelations, blaming weather and air traffic control issues.  But, when researchers compared the number of total flights cancelled to the number of Southwest flights cancelled, it was fairly obvious that this was a localized issue.

Only a few days after that, a massive protest of their vaccine mandate hit home near headquarters.

By Tuesday of this week, the airline had been forced to back down.

Southwest Airlines dropped a plan to put unvaccinated workers with pending exemptions on unpaid leave after a December 8 deadline following protests by their employees.

“The employee will continue to work, while following all COVID mask and distancing guidelines applicable to their position, until the accommodation has been processed,” according to an internal note obtained by CNBC written by Southwest’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Hospitality Steve Goldberg and Vice President and Chief People Officer Julie Weber.

And then, even after a new deadline was set, the company doesn’t appear to be baring its teeth in regard to enforcement.

The company is giving employees until November 24 to finish their vaccinations or apply for a medical or religious exemptions. While these exemptions are pending, employees will continue being paid, and those who are rejected will continue working “as we coordinate with them on meeting the requirements (vaccine or valid accommodation),” CNBC reported.

It was unclear exactly where the buck would ultimately stop with the new timeline, but there is little doubt that we’ll soon find out.
