Trump Administration Looks to Revamp Student Loan Rules in Favor of Indebted Students

Americans deserve the best education in the world, and the Trump administration is doing their part to make it so.

student loan debt

As we swiftly approach the 2020 presidential election, there are a number of hot topics that seem poised to dominate the polito-sphere – student loan debt being one of them.

Don’t get me wrong:  Education is one of the most important aspects of our society, and, in many ways, is the gift that we can keep on giving to ourselves for years to come.  Well-education Americans will grow up to make well-educated decisions about our future, and a hearty investment in academia will certainly provide us with solutions to America’s problems as these young men and women mature.

The only real problem that we face today is the burden of the cost of a higher education.

Many on the left are pushing for radical, sweeping changes to system, including several 2020 candidates who have proposed government subsidies to offset these costs.  For many, thrusting the clunky and ineffective federal government further into the process seems like a step backward.

That’s why Donald Trump and his administration are tackling the issue from a more privatized angle.

The Education Department has hired the consulting firm McKinsey & Co. to study how much money could be lost if low repayment rates persist, an agency spokeswoman said. Meantime, President Trump’s top economic advisers in the White House are studying ways to improve the program’s finances, senior administration officials said.

One option under early consideration is to sell at least a portion of the portfolio, a plan that has been discussed previously by Republican policymakers but faces many obstacles, including whether the government could find interested investors at the right price.

Under such a plan, the government would maintain its role as the nation’s primary lender to college and graduate students, but the government would raise money up front, instead of waiting years for borrowers to make payments and take the debt off its books. Investors would then assume the long-term risk of the loans.

The administration has also considered pressuring the schools themselves into working with indebted students.

“If the review shows that the student-loan portfolio brings in less money than previously understood, the administration could gain more support for initiatives to pressure schools to rein in tuition increases. For example, the White House has suggested developing a system to put colleges on the hook to help pay off their graduates’ outstanding debt.”

Will this be enough of an incentive to move education higher up the nation’s list of priorities?

We can only hope so, for the sake of America’s potential geniuses.

Seattle Police Chief Shreds City Council After Angry Activists Target Her Home

The chief of police for the city of Seattle has come out hard against city council for allowing “mob rule” in the city after angry activists — the same folks who claim to be out for equality and tolerance — targeted her home over the weekend, which caused fear to spread among her neighbors. Folks, no matter what side of the issue you stand on, the fact that individuals are feeling threatened by acts of violence and rioting due to the work of these people and their unhinged behavior is totally unacceptable. Here’s more on this from The Daily Wire: “I wanted to update you on recent events, particularly those that occurred late last night,” Best wrote in a letter addressed to City Council President Lorena González and Public Safety Chair Lisa Herbold. “A residence of mine in Snohomish County was targeted by a large group of aggressive protestors late last night. My neighbors were concerned by such a large group, but they were successful in ensuring the crowd was not able to trespass or engage in other illegal behavior in the area, despite repeated attempts to do so. Currently, the local sheriff (not SPD resources) is monitoring the situation.” “I urge both of you, and the entire council, to stand up for what is right. These direct actions against elected officials, and especially civil servants like myself, are out of line with and go against every democratic principle that guides our nation,” Best continued. “Before this devolves into the new way of doing business by mob rule here in Seattle, and across the nation, elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics.” “The events of this summer were initiated in a moment of grief and outrage over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis…

Ex-White House Spokesman Says Joe Biden Shouldn’t Debate President Trump

One of the major benefits of having all of this coronavirus hoopla going on in our nation is that the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, Joe Biden, has an excuse to avoid public appearances and making a bigger fool of himself than he already has over the last 12 months. Then again, maybe that’s why the left is fighting so hard to keep mass gatherings limited or completely banned? Perhaps, just maybe, Biden’s campaign doesn’t want the guy to be able to debate Trump publicly for fear of how much of a fool he’ll look like and out of fear that the stupid things he says will be impossible to bounce back from? If you think that sounds far-fetched, check out what a former press secretary for President Bill “let’s party hardy at Epstein Island” Clinton said about Biden debating the president. He said Biden should just not show up. Here’s more from The Daily Wire: Joe Lockhart penned an op-ed piece for CNN in which he advises the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate to ignore the three debates, which begin Sept. 29. “Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” Lockhart wrote last week. “Trump has made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.” Yeah. Or you could just admit that your candidate has clear mental health issues going on and you’re afraid he’s going to say something incoherent or outrageous that’s going to draw a lot of attention. Just tell the truth, folks. And…
