Trump And Fauci Battle Each Other Concerning Doctor’s Praise On Coronavirus Response

Published

President Trump and Dr. Anthony Fauci got in a little verbal sparring match over the weekend concerning the doctor’s praise for the Trump administration at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

The spat is the result of the Trump campaign releasing a political ad that features a quote by Fauci, who is an immunologist and serves as the director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and who is also a big player on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, saying he “can’t imagine…that anybody could be doing more.”

The commercial is 30 seconds in length and is currently running in the key battleground state of Michigan.

“President Trump is recovering from the coronavirus, and so is America,” the ad’s narrator says. “Together we rose to meet the challenge, protecting our seniors, getting them life-saving drugs in record time, sparing no expense.” The ad then cuts to Fauci for his “can’t imagine” quote.

While there’s no date attributed to the quote, CNN reported that it came from a March interview on Fox News. “During that interview, Fauci praised the White House coronavirus task force’s round-the-clock effort to respond to the pandemic, which he says included numerous White House meetings and late-night phone calls,” CNN wrote.

Here’s the thing. Fauci might not have been offering Trump praise. As a true narcissist, he might actually have been giving himself praise. Guess humility isn’t one of his character traits.

“We’ve never had a threat like this,” CNN quotes Fauci as saying then. “The coordinated response has been… There are a number of adjectives to describe it — impressive, I think is one of them. We’re talking about all hands on deck. I, as one of many people on a team, I’m not the only person. Since the beginning, that we even recognized what this was, I have been devoting almost full time on this. I’m down at the White House virtually every day with the task force. It’s every single day. So, I can’t imagine that under any circumstances that anybody could be doing more.”

Fauci responded to the ad by saying that he doesn’t do politics and that the comment he made is being “taken out of context.”

“In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate,” Fauci said to CNN. “The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials.”

President Trump fired back on Twitter, “They are indeed Dr. Fauci’s own words. We have done a ‘phenomenal’ job, according to certain governors. Many people agree…And now come the Vaccines & Cures, long ahead of projections!”

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh also pushed back against Fauci trying to downplay the comment, saying, “These are Dr. Fauci’s own words. The video is from a nationally broadcast television interview in which Dr. Fauci was praising the work of the Trump Administration. The words spoken are accurate, and directly from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.”

“As Dr. Fauci recently testified in the Senate, President Trump took the virus seriously from the beginning, acted quickly, and saved lives,” Murtaugh went on to say.

Here’s a story you don’t see all the time…or ever. Then again, this is the year 2020 – anything goes. If you’re a history buff, here’s your break from politics for a few minutes. Check this out, via News & Observer: The historic Cape Hatteras Light Station grounds were closed Thursday after a bomb appeared in the surf at Buxton on the Outer Banks, according to the National Park Service. A half-mile safety perimeter was established to keep tourists out, including the lighthouse grounds, nearby parking lots and surrounding beach, officials said in a release. The iconic lighthouse, with its famous black and white stripes, dates to 1870. “After careful examination, a U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from Norfolk, Virginia, confirmed that the object … is a live military ordnance,” the National Park Service said in an update Thursday night. Trump Was A Longtime Presbyterian, Now He Says He Is Non-Denominational Christian

Doin’ things his way…

From New York Post: President Trump, who has long identified as a Presbyterian, now considers himself a non-denominational Christian, a new report said. The president shared his change in religious identity in a written interview with the Religious News Service. “Though I was confirmed at a Presbyterian church as a child, I now consider myself to be a non-denominational Christian,” Trump wrote, without giving an explanation for the transformation or saying when it occurred. Because everything is so PC and everybody is afraid of saying the wrong thing, free speech is at an all-time low. People are getting fired from their jobs, even expelled from school. At the end of the day, this proves that the left is winning. And it has to stop.
